It's getting close to that time for a run to the Shenandoah Mountains in Virgina to see the fall leaves.
Last year we did it so late in the fall that it was really to see the "Twigs" instead of "Leaves" run.
I'm free the weekend of Oct 20-21 to do a run to see the leaves this year.
BIG JIM took us down to Roanoke this summer and we found we could ride about 100 miles along the Shenandoah mountains without paying the $15 per car charge that "Sidekick" picked up for us last year. Thanks again Sidekick.
So there are ways to see lots of leaves for a long distance if we want for only the cost of gas.
What does everyone think? I'll bring it up when we meet for the Chocolate/Covered Bridge run and see who's interested and when.
I'll probably will be tied up most Saturdays until after Nov 10 if we don't go the Oct 20-21 dates, and by then it sure will be a "Twig" run.
My motorcycle riding friends are going for a two ride in the Shenandoah mountains on the weelend of Oct 20-21 and are getting rooms for Saturday night.
Looks like that's going to be in the middle of the leaf looking viewing time an should be a great weekend to go riding.
Doesn't anyone have any interest and going for a ride? I might join my motorcycling friends if there's no SSR riding interest and take the bike instead.

We are interested in the Shenandoah Mountains(Twig) Run. We are planning a trip to
Richmond to visit my children. Could possibly tie the two together.
Where are you planning to start and stop?
We are not able to make the Choco-bridge Run as we will be on a Caribbean Cruise leaving
on October 6.
I haven't had any response to making a "Twig" or "Leaf" run so at this point I don't know if there is going to be any organized SSR run.
I'm free for either Oct 20 or 21. For most other Saturday's this fall I'm not going to be able to make a drive, although Sundays may be possible.
Depending on the weather for the weekend of Oct 20/21, I'll probably just take a one day trip down the Blueridge Parkway or maybe just a short run in the Shenandoah park.
After the Chocolate / Covered Bridge run I'm hoping for more interest to be shown.
We just did a 300 mile all day run through the Eastern shore with my motorcycle and riding friends. That was little to much on our bodies and we came back really worn out and tired. Therefore, I don't think we'll try to do the mountains with a motorcycle, an SSR ride doing it would be much less taxing on our bodies.
I'm kinda of tired from driving these last two weekends, the Chocolate/Covered bridges run and going to Salisbury this past weekend, and maybe others are too.
I've posted a thread about going on a "Leaf" or "Twig" run to the Shenandoa mountions like we did last year and there doesn't seem like there's much interest for this weekend. So maybe we should postpone the run for this weekend. Last year we went late so the "leaf" viewing run turned into a "Twig" run instead. Everyone didn't really seem to mind so maybe a "Twig" run only would have more interest.
From what I can tell the "leaf" viewing this year is not going to be that great anyway since we've been in a drought all this summer and now also going into the fall. I understand that the leaves are not going to be that colorful because of that, so if we wait and do a "twig" run later it just might be better and have more interest.
Plus, we need more planning on what route and where do we want to go eat.
While I wanted to expand the run to the Blue Ridge PWY, in talking with BIG JIM, that may be too much to do in a day, so I think we should probably just drive close to the same route as last year. Howvever, there are other less scenic parallel roads we could take to save the $15 per car cost and use that money for a different place for lunch. Last years place was just fine but I would skip the Lurray Carvans.
We've got a holiday weekend coming up for Veterans day Nov 12 on that Monday.
Therefore, we could plan for a Sunday drive on November 11 and still have a day to recover and not rush back to work on a Monday. (I might be available Nov 10, but I'm not positive)
Does that sound better to do?
Any interest for a "Twig" run later?
I'm really only available for Sundays after this weekend but, if people want to do things on other earlier Saturdays, go ahead and don't let me stop the group from proceding on a Saturday.

BTW, my handle is really just my last name and first name initial, like I've used in most of my past email addresses. I've got to change that but I haven't come up yet with something.
In going to Salisbury this past Saturday we saw signs along the way for Winterfest in Ocean City.
I hadn't heard about this before but maybe others have.
I guess Ocean City is trying to come up with things to do in the winter there.
From the signs, it seems they were promoting to come to Ocean City and see the holiday lights and possibly other activities.
Maybe that's something we could drive to. People from the NJ area could drive down and the Virgina and Maryland people could drive east and we'd all meet at Ocean City and drive around together and see the lights.
The "Twig" run is really just a way to get together in the fall/winter but there are other things we might want to try too.
Hopefully, we'll have dry (snowless) winter and maybe we could do some winter cruising. Only problem, I think it would have to be "Tops" up driving.

That would be a fairly easy day trip from here. Depending on when it is...I'd be up for that. Just don't forget the Eastern PA people...apparently some of them get kinda touchy when you don't include them. Right X?

But, unfortunately, I'll be leaving some behind...
A Run down the Blue Ridge mountains on Saturday, November 10 works for us as
we are going to visit my kids in Richmond that weekend. We could run down the
Blue Ridge then continue on to Richmond after the run.
Early November could work for Trish and I ...depends how harvesting goes...running a little late this year.
Looking forward to seeing you all and I hope Sidekick can make it.
