Question PA Resident vehicle purchase information

I am selling a MA titled vehicle to a PA resident. (Another member's daughter.)
The vehicle was purchased new by my mother-in-law and we have the title.
The purchaser has been told they need this MV-41 form and a tracing of the VIN plate for verification of the VIN or VIN verification by a police officer.

I can see doing this if you are purchasing a vehicle that has never been titled.
We had to when we purchased a 1969 Camaro 25 years ago and it was never titled.
We wanted to get the Camaro titled.

I would call AAA or a local tag joint to get all of the compliance regulations in order. Or call a Tag place in Pa and get details. If you need any phone #'s I'll gladly get some for you.

The MV-41 form is if the VIN plate doesn't match the number on the title. I'm guessing she's trying to get it registered in PA before she brings the car back from MA. When I buy a used car out of state, I just throw a set of my PA plates on it and drive it home. If you've got the title, a bill of sale, and the insurance card for those plates, it's not a problem.

I got stopped by a Jersey State Cop, in the SSR, and when he ran the computer check it showed the plates were for my previous car as the change hadn't gone through yet. He didn't even bat an eye.

When she gets home, just go to the tag place and do the paper work. The only time I had to do the VIN tracing was bringing a MA car to PA before MA had titles... that was in '66.

Thanks Bruce. That is what I figured the form MV-41 was for. The car is being shipped to Pittsburg next week.
