Join us for a scenic drive along the Potomac River from Virginia, through Maryland to West Virginia. I’ll refine the details in a few weeks after I make a couple of trial runs.
Here is a brief outline of the run:
We’ll meet on the Virginia side of the River near Mount Vernon or Alexandria.
I am not sure if Harper’s Ferry will be the end point for the run but there are a couple of other options from this point:
Short distance west to Charles Town, WV
Head south to Leesburg, VA
Further North to Hagerstown, MD - there is a large Crusie-In at one of the malls. We ended up here at the end of the Catoctin Mountain Run I lead a few years ago.
I’ll update with exact meeting times places during the second week in June.
I think I can make this one and I know Julie wants too. Will be tempting to ride my Hog though.
Yes, I agree. Another would be a welcome sight. I was feeling a little out of place on the winery run, and my was feeling a little lonely with all those (bland) 's and 's.
Just teasing, all! But it will be nice to throw a couple of other colors in the mix - 3 's, 2 's, 2 :blur's, and a (Monica?).
I'll have to stop by the Family Health Clinic in Woodbridge and invite the owner of a to join us. And wish I knew who I honked at today (saw a on the Woodbridge side of Manassas, and honked, but was on the bike so the driver had no idea another owner was honking at them.
Brian, since you're leading the way on the Potomac run, the video should be awesome. We'll try to figure out how to get video capability in the 2nd SSR to catch your moves.
Are we wanting to tour Mt Vernon before starting off on our tour? If we get in there early enough, there are a couple of different lots we can gather at side by side. I live just about 5 miles (or so) from there, so if you need any information or somebody to stop in there to make any arrangements, let me know.
Sounds like a plan... I think I'll put this down on my calendar!
Glad you can make it Kevin!!

I shot some video from the Wine run with one of the mini cams pointed at the driver's seat. With the reflections of on the tonneau lid it looks like i am setting in a pool of water.

I don't think we will tour Mount Vernon. It would probably take 2-3 of hours to tour everything and not feel rushed. If there is a large group, I might start out north of Alexandria to reduce the chance of breaking up the group going through Alexandria on Washington St.
I have been thinking that this run could be the middle part of a 3 leg series of runs. I have wanted to do a run to Western MD. A western run could continue along the Potomac NW of Haper's Ferry. A southeastern run could cover the Potomac from Alexandria to the Chesapeake. So maybe we could also do a run starting at Mount Vernon, actually spend some time there, and head south toward Jim's area.
Going to head out this afternoon, to check out Great Falls on the MD side. I think I might make this our first stop in MD.

Lonely ? I think you should have felt like Rudolph, leading the pack !!!

This sounds like a great run with lots of stuff to see. Sure wish we could make it. One day I wont have this summertime business and get to do this stuff.

We've had a beautiful Spring, and this run welcomes in Summer! Wish you and Danny could be up here with us, Gina. We have a dogsitter for overnight trips - too bad there isn't such a thing as hotel sitter.
We'll be thinking about you, Gina. You'll be here in spirit.

Thanks jewlz! BTW, I'm the dogsitter in MV. I dogsit a lot.
The updated run sounds great, Brian! I'm all for a second run to cover Harper's Ferry. Looking forward to this. ChevSSR would love to join, but has to work on the 21st.
I'm sure Brian will do a great job with video and pictures, and Jim will work his magic with the camera too!
See you at 9:30 on the 21st. Next weekend, I will PM all participating about food.
I just updated the info in the first post of this thread.
I added a pdf version of the booklet I'll print for th run. The cover is shown as an attached jpg. image in the first message.
See everyone next week!!!

Brian - thanks for all the research and updating you've done for the run next Saturday. Looking VERY forward to it!
The Great Falls (C&O Canal) web site indicates that the canal ride departs at 11:00, 1:30, 3:00, and 4:30 on Saturday/Sunday.
Brian's research indicates we will be stopping near or at a picnic area that has a snack bar. I would like to suggest that each SSR bring their own picnic lunch. I will bake brownies to share, and if anybody else wants to contribute something for the entire group, I'm sure nobody will complain!
Looking forward to meeting new folks next Saturday, and seeing "old friends" again. Dave made it back safe and sound from his business trip, and is looking forward to seeing you all again. (I think I've talked him into leaving the two-wheeled vehicle at home.)

I added dierections and maps to the start location, Riverside Park, in the first post. These are just a guide to get you to Alexandria. There might be a quicker way so feel free to use your own routes to get there. West of Alexandria and South of Mount Vernon are pretty easy routes.
Also please take note of Julie's earlier post. Plan on bringing your own picnic lunch for Great Falls Md. There is a snack bar there as well. I am attaching a photo of the menu.

Hey guys, you can count Monica and I in on this run! I don't know which we will bring; but it will be great to visit with y'all and hopefully (weather permitting) have a great drive.
Isn't Lancaster County, Penna. near Amish country?? Are there any horse drawn buggies that look like an SSR??
John - will the lure of Amish Country get you here for this run? I'd offer the guest bedroom, but Dave's son will be staying with us until he and his best friend find an apt or townhouse in the area to rent (they're both recent college grads, setting out for life on their own as full-time employees in the area).
I'll be out of town that Sat. If plans change I'd like to be there. Will know next week.
Frank, guess you're still planning on being out of town on Saturday? No sweaty barbecue? We'll be thinking of you. Hoping we have a run in July, and that you'll be able to join us if we do.
