Spring Covered Bridge Tour

Ok, this is the official thread for the 2007 SSR Fanatic Tour of Lancaster County Covered Bridges (Covered Bridge Power Tour you could say ) Date is May 19th.

We will be focusing on the northern half of the county. This tour will encompass 15 bridges in all, plus a few extra goodies thrown in for good measure. I think everyone will be pleased with the driving route I've chosen - the only "highway" miles are on some of the lesser roads and it's all scenic with the only exception of the final leg at the end of the day.

I am preparing driving directions and a handout with bridge descriptions and histories. I will post it up here when I'm done, and I'll bring a few copies with me in case someone's forgotten theirs.

Meeting place (subject to change) is at the Lancaster County Shopping center. It's conveniently sandwiched between PA Rt 501, US Rt. 222, and US Rt 30 (see attached map). There are plenty of restaurants nearby for those wishing to get out early and get some breakfast before the run. I figure if we get rolling by 10AM, we will have time to hit all of the bridges with plenty of loiter time and still finish in time for a reasonable dinner hour.

Please post if you are coming on the tour.

I realized this morning I forgot to mention that - it's May 19th (Saturday). I've edited the original post.

Can you give a more specific reference point for the starting location that will work for mapquest. I must be "challenged" I can't get Lancaster County Shopping center to come up.

Thanks Doug. I was just going to mention the intersection of US 222 and Butler Ave since google seems to take that as the closest.

Great work !!

Great work on this Kevin. I havn't tried the MY MAPS on google before. I work alot with Google Earth. I need to see if I can transfer some of that info into the My Maps. Very Coool.

I might have to take a detour when we get to Manheim. Over the past year I have been doing some genealogy research. My 3rd and 4th great-grandfathers were from Manheim. I may have to break away from the group to check out a couple of sites then meet with the rest of the gang for Dinner.
