I wasn't sure when I bought my SSR earlier this spring whether it would be seeing snow or not. After driving it for a while the answer was clearly NO! I just recently picked up an older 2 door Tahoe in great shape that makes for a great 4 wheel drive machine for the winter and also doubles as a people mover when two seats just ain't cutting it.
But my dilemma now is I don't really have a place to store it. No personal garage or enclosure and friends are pretty limited as well. I was wondering if any Northeasterners dealing with snow, or anybody else who stores their SSR, could offer me any experience or advice with storing these machines due to awful snow and cold.

Thanks in advance
A lot of military guys rent storage units to store their cars while deployed. Fairly cheap and just as good as a garage.

Storage units around here usually run around $150 - $200 a month.
You may want to try craigslist or your local town paper to see if you can find a local garage for rent.
Thanks for the advice guys. I'm looking to buy my first house in the spring and #1 on my list is a garage, preferably a nice large garage for two or three cars. Hopefully I can find something reasonable for this winter and have it be a one time thing. Any other suggestions are welcome.

seubanks, you don't happen to have any buddies into racing or in the lawn care business? Just thinking they might have an enclosed trailer sitting around empty that you might use. I know we always had our race car in the garage over the winter, working on it, and would stick a street machine in the trailer for the winter.

Some storage units have moisture problems. A procedure to keep moisture from coming up through concrete is to put plastic over the rock, before the concrete is poured on. I have seen some cars that lived in storage facilities that the bottoms of the chassis where factory coatings were thin have a definite haze of rust on many components. Also aluminum and cad plated items will oxidize.
A simple solution would be a roll out rubber "Garage Floor Mat" . OUr local Sams Club has these items for about $ 100.00
Hmmm I never really thought about a trailer. I'm not sure if I know anyone with one, but I will start asking around. As far as moisture issues, thats certainly something to consider. Fortunately I'll only be storing it for the winter, 3 months or so. I'll definitely think about putting something down on the concrete if it goes into storage.
You could buy one of these. Just put down a plastic tarp under your car before you pull it in. Put some dryer sheets inside and mothballs around to keep out the mice.

If we get heavy snow then it could collapse.
It happened to a friend of mine who was storing his Porsche.
It damaged the paint and broke the rear window.

seubanks - I have stored my SSR and Thunderbird at a place in Haverhill, MA for the last two years (and I just dropped both vehicles off two weeks ago for this winter) - it's heated, has fire sprinklers, security, and very dry (painted concrete floors). There are several very high end cars stored here as well. Cost - $500 for the 'season' - you can leave your SSR there until next July if you want. You can have access to your car during storage - but its not really set up for drive in/out privileges during storage.
If you're interested, let me know and I'll get you the contact info/location. I have been very happy with this place!
