Walter Reed Car Show

Fellow Fanatics:
I know this is last minute but I just got this info. Last year on Fathers day, car clubs from the Delaware area, including sponsors from businesses, put together a car show and brought hundreds of pounds of BBQ, Chicken, Potato salad and Coleslaw to the wounded troops back from Iraq and Afganistan. Last year this was a big sucess. There is no entrance fee but I will be donating some money (you can if you want but it is not required). Please read the attachments!!! They are BMP format.
It is June 15th (Fathers Day)
I would like to meet at 0845 at the McDonalds Lanham, MD from there we can cruise to Walter Reed (about 30 mins.) Please let me know as soon as possible if you plan to attend. I would like your forum name and real name. My cell number is (302) 242-8714 if you have any questions. There is free food and drinks for us and live entertainment. The wounded troops will choose the top ten cars in the show and plaques will be awarded!!!

Walter Reed Army Medical Center Car Show

I forgot to add the attachments. Sorry. This show is for the wounded troops who really enjoyed it last year. I hope my fellow Fanatics will pitch in for this worthwhile event. All it will cost you is some gas and time

Car Show For Our Troops

Count me and my in for this.

I'll PM you with the info you asked for.

Thank you for letting us know about this.

Oh, and I'm issuing a challenge to all other owners in the area: SSR71 (Kevin, NoVA GUY, the person with VA tags KOOL KAR, and whomever I honked at yesterday coming out of Manassas).

Bumping this up.

Calling all VA/DC/MD/DE/NJ/PA SSR owners who could work in a bit of time this Father's Day to entertain our wounded troops at Walter Reed.

(Please do not turn this into anything political - has nothing to do with politics, everything to do with supporting/entertaining our troops who are recovering from injuries. If you wish to make a political statement, please do so in the appropriate Supporting Member Off Topic forum. Thank you.)

I am going to try to make this. If I can make it, I'll probably meet you guys at Walter Reed. It's just around the corner from me.

Thumbs up Not able to attend but....

I have to go to Walter Reed often for check ups, because of illness after Afghanistan. But what I have is nothing to the men and women I see making their way through the lobby for the first time. Many trying out their new limbs for the first time in public.

Kind of a hard to watch but none of them did I hear complain, they never gave up, never stop trying. So when you do go, will just remember...keep the your head up.

As stated before, nothing political just a fact

Thank you for the heads up, Hamilfour. And, hope that whatever ails you is treatable and curable.

And, bumping this up for anybody who can make some time on the 15th.

Thank you,

Darn... wish we could make this one... but we're running out of weekends to get other work done around here. Can we just add 6 months to summer and skip winter so we have more time for cruises? :-)

Wish we could be there!

I was telling my girl friend before I left for Iraq about trying to organize something just like this or very similar. I sure wish I could make this one.

Please if you make this one it will be worth it to put a smile on a wound soldiers face!

Correction : Wife owns Jaguar, SSR, and 6 other cars!!!
Once they get married, they don't own anything ever again!
SUPER dave ( David )
An SSR's Wife ( Tanja )
We have also invited a select few of our club members from other car clubs.
I will let David drive the Chevuar ( jaguar that's all chevy under the shell )
And I will be bringing "LENORE "
See You Guys There!!!

Awesome! Would never have guessed Tanja and SuperDave! Hope to see you Sunday - if not, we'll see you next Saturday. Dave is back from his travels, and maybe I'll let him drive.

Thanks for taking the time to check in, Tanja. Ed will definitely meet you in Lanham, and if I'm feeling up to it, Dave and I will be there, too. And Roadster Jim will be there in spirit! I know Brian is meeting the clan at Walter Reed. Will be a good group.

Unhappy Disappointed

So sorry all, but Dave and I have to pull out of this commitment for health's sake.

Do know that we will be there in spirit, and hope you form good memories with our recovering troops at Walter Reed. I am so, so disappointed to not be able to participate.

Thumbs up A Great Day !!!!

It was a beautiful day and a great cause!!!
We had lots of fun, Thanks to:
chevssr aka " Mr. Ed "
Midnight Rider " Brian "
( David ) the guy with the richocet silver, that could not remember his own user name !!!
I wish more Fanatics could have attended...but maybe next year, we will start
to plan early. Remember to keep Fathers Day morning open for this great event!!!!! My Dad was proud that his daughter did this, even though he had to wait till the evening to receive his present.
Oh and by the way " SUPER dave " took our Jaguar " chevuar " and won a plaque for one of the best top ten cars!! And this really meant alot, because the soldiers were the judges.
Here's a couple pics... Sorry they are not that great, I am a car girl not a photographer

P.S. This was the first SSR event we did without " Big Jim "
I missed you, And this was the first time I wasn't the co-pilot,
You didn't get to see me drive the SSR 80 mph down 495.
( 55 mph to any police officers reading tis thread !!!)

Here are a few more pics:

1 - The Fanatics - SuperDave, An SSR's Wife, ChevSSR, Chris, MidnightRider.
2 - Dave and Tanja's Chevuar - (Not your typical "rat" rod)
3 - You can never have enough mirror shots

Thanks to Ed for the invite. This was a very good cause.

I seriously thought about joining you, but I was too burned out. Spent too much of Friday evening asleep on the couch, had to work Saturday, and repeated the couch affair that night. Slept late Sunday morning to help recover.

Hopefully next year.
