Callaway Gardens Xmas Cruise!

Mike (MACE) suggested we do a Christmas meet up and see the Xmas lights at Callaway! (PS Thanks for the HOG, you and Arthur, Ellen and Carol did great!) What a great idea!

Who would like to get together at Callaway Gardens for the Christmas Light Drive through? If you haven't done it, it is SPECTACULAR! There is a cost, I will find out and edit this post, as well as who can make it.

They (Mike / Arthur) know a place in Pine Mountain (the town next to Callaway, where the Roosevelt "Little White House" and Hot Springs are located) for good food, then around dark we drive over to Callaway for the light show! I picked the 13th, because I figured the 20th would be too close to the big day.

If anyone is intrerested I could call the Inn at Callaway, to see if we could get some rooms blocked and a group rate (unless there might be other little "Mom and Pops" in Pine Mountain?). So if possible, how about a reply to two questions:

1) Yes I / We will attend the Callaway light and dinner cruise;

2) We'd like to stay over for Sunday Brunch, so we need a room!

I will call around to get rates, if it looks like we have a few interested.
Mike / Carol / Ellen /Arthur, what was the name of the restaurant in Pine Mountain? Think we need to give them a heads up for a group?

Reply as soon as Possible, and I'll get right on it! Christmas is right around the corner!
Bud

UPDATE

OK Folks, I have some details! Here is a proposed Itinerary:

Meet about 2:00/2:30 pm At the Roosevelt Little White House, in Warm Springs. The last Film start is at 4pm. (Not going here? Meet at the Bulloch House at 5 pm)

Leave to arrive the Bulloch House by 5pm, for Grub!

Leave Bulloch to go to Callaway for a 8-9PM Drive through time slot. This is the least expensive. This date has ONLY time reserved availability. I felt we would not want to rush dinner (since David eats a lot) so the 8 pm slot seemed best.

Here are the links for more info:Bulloch House (706.655.9068) doesn't normally take reservations on a Saturday, but my new friend "UT" told me to call her and she'd try to work something out. Soft drinks only, and good country food, just an fyi.

Little White House (706.655.5870):Georgia State Parks - Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site
Admision: $4.00 - $7.00
Hours: 9am-4:45pm last film starts at 4pm

Callaway Gardens (706.663.2281): Callaway Gardens | Fantasy In Lights
Info: Admission is good for the Gardens as well as the "Fantasy in Lights" and is as follows: Adults 13-over $18+tax; 6-12 years $9.00+ tax, under6 free.
Time slot for drive through for "Fantasy in Lights": 8-9pm other times available, but higher cost. There are only 78 slots for "drive thru" available today, and I was told they will fill up!. The Trolly has over 600, but it will be cold! You need to book the slot, and guarantee it with a credit card. Once its booked, it can't be changed or refunded. Again I will coordinate this by booking and guaranteeing the cost if you want me to, but if you confirm, YOU OWN IT!
WE NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS NOW!

White Columns Motel (706.663.2312):http://www.whitecolumnsmotel.com/I can book a block to reserve rooms, but right now only have 3 committed. Grandma, MACE, and me. This requires a credit card, so if I do, you are on the hook with me if you need to cancel! I'll need to call them to confirm the group, and familiarize them with the Group Name, "SSR Fanatics of Georgia". I will await feedback to make the call, so HURRY!
This is right down from Callaway I read the 14 reviews on line, and although it might be aged, it sounded clean. I urge you to read them too.
Rate of $69.00+tax. for our group.
Room type is first come basis
Book ASAP, available rooms now. Cancel by 12/9 without cost
No restaurant, just Continental Breakfast, but next door (walking distance) is the Whistling Pig Cafe (again with the PIG theme!) where I am told the grub is good.

Here is the roll call so Far:
Me Bud / Jan: Yes w/ Room
Grandma: Yes w/ Room
MACE: Yes w/ room

SSRHEARTBEAT: No White House/Doing Tram / NO room
SSR WSB: Sheldon and Trace, from the FLA Panhandle! Driving a Ricochet over Black! (Take note David, they actually drive theirs!)
Harvey Issacson: No
SSRROSE: YES and YES!
SSRROE: Yes /ROOM? (we are always telling them to get a room anyway!)
PopPop: NO
HarborRide: NO
Purple People Eater: NO
Purple Penelope: NO
Chuck& Jody Sessa(AKA CJ0711070) NO

If you are not on the list, and want to come, let me know. Also, I have a friend or two who might want to join the party! You might too! Let me know their names, and we can include them in the rooms / group, or just have them call and reference the group, after I get it set up.

Bud

Welcome SSR-WSB!
They PM'd me to tell me that they plan to also attend the dinner / lights. They are from the FLA Panhandle, and DON'T need a PassPort here in the "open arms" state of Georgia! We LIKE to share our treasures with others that come here to spend FLA cash!
To all welcome Sheldon and Trace, if you see them.

I have set the dinner reservation at the Bulloch House for 5:30, Saturday Night. We should all plan to be there about 5 if possible. They will only hold a reservation for about 15 mins, so let's be prompt! You snooze, you lose!

With SSR Fanatics and Friends, I have the head count for binner at about 18. I will be bringing 2 couples with me, besides those here who have advised they'd be there.
See you all there!
Bud

Great Fun

All you guys who didn't show up missed a great time! We had never been to the LIttle White House and were very impressed with how well done the museum is. Dinner at the Bullock House was outstanding. The Fantasy of Lights was a true fantasy. We enjoyed meeting Bud's neighbors Paul & Jackie and Lance & Betsy. All they need is an SSR to be perfect Fanatics. Sheldon, Tracy, and Beatrice (their beagle) were great to get to know as well.

Thanks to Bud for putting together a great weekend. I'll let Bud post pictures since they are always past history by the time we download them and I could post.

Joan

Thanks Joan,
Yes we missed you all this weekend. It has been about 15 years since I had seen the lights at Callaway, and boy has it gotten better.

(Grandma) Ellen, and Artuhur, Mike and Carol (MACE) we missed you. How did the Bull show go? Maybe thats where David was... hum Bull show and all...

David and Kim (SSRHEARTBEAT)you were missed too! (at least Kim was!) David, you just have to check for voice mails! Did you pay your cell bill.

Michael and Linda (SSRROE), we just gotta get together!

Anyway, with all of the holiday family and work responsibilities I understand the low turnout, but we DID have 3 hearty SSR's there for the motel and Callaway folks to see!

Thanks to Sheldon and Trace too for driving up from the Panhandle of "Aged land" to be with us!

My neighbors had a great time, even the cold shower we had on Sunday didn't dampen the weekend! (there were 8 of us on the end of the other building, and maybe 6 got hot water!) As they say, ya snooze ya lose!

I will post pics in a few days, traveling ALL week to Boston and Dallas! God I hate snow!

Finally got the pics uploaded! Sorry it took so long.

We started off with a visit to the "Little White House" in Warm Springs, which was built by F.D. Roosevelt, and in fact where he died while still President. Then to the springs, where the water is 80% year round. Although the pools are now drained, the water is still piped to the hospital there above the original location, and still used for theraputic exercise and comfort.

All of you who missed the trip to Callaway and the Bulloch House, missed a GREAT time!
Maybe next year!
1) The Bulloch House, GREAT Grub!
2) Bulloch House. We ate inside the big windows on the porch by the big tree on the right!
3) The SSROSE's, Glen and Joan
4) Jan and Bud, Glen and Joan, Trace and Sheldon (ssr WSB)
5) Night pics of the lights, over the shoulder! (check the wax job!)

More Pics of the Lights. The temp was cold, and the "Bun Warmers" were in order, but we did drop the tops!

Various night light pics, but the cool thing is the "SCALE" of the lights! Note the scale of Sheldon and Trace's R, next to the Lights of the house in pic #2. Sheldon didn't bring the Richochet / Smokin, as I had indicated however. He opted for the Yeller one, one of the THREE they have!
Pic #3 was probably 15 feet tall!

Again in Pic #4, the lights were all overhead, and looked like it filled the forest. These don't do the real feeling justice, but look at the tail lights again, against the lights! It was "goose bump" producing!

Also the swans in the final pic were "floating" on the water, which made them even more spectacular with the reflection.

Next day there were Bloody's from the R tailgate before the women drug the men through all of the "trinket" shops in Warm Springs.
