Gina,
Phil and his wife are new to the Fanatics. We met him @ the Panhandle Rally. I gave him the phone # for the Maggie Valley Inn and he has a room there. He will be coming up with us on Thursday the 1st.
My bad, (and Dick Bellville's) for not telling him to send you a PM, but I will ask him to do that.

All...If your into a hike Chimney Rock is awesome. If you plan on visiting it, rent the movie Last of the Mohicans before you head to Maggie. Most of the movie was filmed in western NC with a significant portion filmed at Chimney Rock.
Checked this restaurant out today and had lunch there. It was good but I dont think there will be enough parking room there. They werent as "group friendly" as I had hoped for. Wanted to do a buffett, pre-pay and all that. I'm not fooling with that.
I really appreciate the suggestion though. I would eat there again.
This restaurant works better for a group and has a great view of the lake. It has a lot of seating. We sat outside on the deck (it was nice today around 75 and sunny!!!!)
The way it will work is we will go as a group. Because of the large # of people we will not be able to order off of the regular menu. They will have a special menu of their most popular items and we will choose from that. I hope this works for everyone. If it doesnt work for anyone going on the run and you choose to eat elsewhere, please let me know so that I can give the restaurant accurate numbers.

Good idea and I checked on this today. Regular admission price is $14.00 The group rate is $11.50 BUT.... in order to get the group rate all money has to be collected and one person goes in and pays for the entire group.
I will not be doing this for the following reasons:
(1) This is very time consuming for a savings of $2.50.
(2) If I collect all the $$$ up front and it rains, then I have to deal with getting it all refunded.
(3) Some people may not decide whether or not to go into the park until we get there. Some may want to shop or take the boat ride on Lake Lure.

Pix from my scouting trip the other day.
1. View from the restaurant.
2. Much better view from the restaurant seen through a Key Lime Pie drink.
3 & 4. Looking Glass Falls. Taken on my way home. 120 miles that day.
