I received a PM today Alex05SSR. He has came up with a very good idea for the MV 2008 rally.
We are going to have some competition amongst ourselves while at the GM truck show cruise in on Saturday. We will have our own private judging for our SSR's while at the show.
Below is a quote from the PM received.
So Ladies and Gentleman get those SSR's ready for the competition!!!!
I am trying to get some #'s on how many people will be attending the GM truck show on Saturday. The cost to come into the show and park with the SSR group is $5 per SSR. This is a very fair price. We could not rent a space this cheap for our large group to gather and hold this competition.
If you plan on entering the SSR contest (not the GM truck show, our own competition) you need to be their by 10 AM and allow 2 hours for judging.
I am asking for everyone else that is attending to be there and parked by noon so that we can try and get a group shot. This will be our best opportunity. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy the show or to leave and enjoy the area.
Please post on this thread if you plan on entering the competition, attending the show or both. I will post the #'s on post # 1 of this thread

Plus, maybe many of us will learn something from this competition category pertaining to what products "outshine" the others.

Alex, we were hoping you would have a "best rims" category b/c we got new rims and tires for the R. We were disappointed to see there wasn't a category pertaining just to wheels
I also hope that doesn't dis-qualify us from best stock custom wax category b/c we havent done anything to change the R other than that.
You'll have to let us know.
Thanks!

PRPLHZE,
I don't believe that I've ever been to a show around my area where there was a special category for best wheels. I've got custom 20"/22" wheels myself, but I feel that it would be too narrow and a totally subjective category to judge. Not much criteria, except personal taste.....just my $0.02.
On the "Best Stock Wax Job" category, having custom wheels will NOT disqualify you from being considered in that category, since your wheels have nothing to do with how good your paint looks. When we say "stock" wax job, I am purposely trying to exclude those folks who have custom paint schemes, flames, elaborate striping, etc. They have their own separate categories. I hope folks don't mind that it did this, but again, this is my attempt to get many fanatics involved as possible who have basically left their SSRs stock. I don't want them to feel left out!
Same goes for the "Best Cargo Area/Display" category. You can have, but you don't have to have, permanent mod's to your cargo area for this category. Just a unique, clever display in the cargo area will suffice.
I will briefly review the guidelines on the categories with everyone there on that Saturday morning to make sure everyone understands. My hope is that we will have a lot of fun with this. Remember, whether one wants to be in the competition or not, I'm hopeful that we can get ALL of the fanatics there at the show to participate in the voting.

Well, i for one, as a R owner who has left it pretty much stock, can say I'm glad that you had the stock custom wax category, otherwise I would have felt left out!!!!

How did I miss this post?
Gina,
Count me in for the contest's Tho I won't win for the best lookin SSR as I still have a slightly dinged up front end I will however challenge anyone for the best sounding SSR
Kay ("FuryKay") sent me these photos of all the awards for all 8 competition categories and the long distance award that he had made up for us. I thought you might like to see them.
Remember, the black "SSR" Maglite flashlights in presentation cases, plus belt holsters, will be giving as awards/prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in all 8 categories and the long distance. Hope you all are getting fired up.
As a side note, my resently polished alternator, that "Dragon2U" did for me when I visited him back in February, died on me Wednesday night. I drove home in the dark in a heavy rain with no working headlights, windshield wipers, or defogger. Man, you talk about a "white knuckle" ride home. Now I've got to do something about that missing "bling" before MV. I did not realize how much I would miss it. May go for a chrome one, but haven't decided yet. Got to keep up my "image".
