Dragon Tail 2010, Maggie Valley Cruise
The Dragon Tail should be re-opened on Monday April, 12th
Ok folks, Ive had several inquiries about a Dragon Tail Cruise during the Maggie Valley Rally.
I personally will not be going over for lack of time. I will be hosting the meet and greet on Thursday. Leading a ride to Brevard on Friday. Attending the show and shine Saturday morning and leading a short ride to Waterrock Knob on the Parkway on Saturday afternoon.
So everyone that wants to do the tail should chime in on this thread and pick a day, time and a leader.
Keep it mind its 80 miles over there so this will be a lengthy ride.
Gina, if you can't get anyone to lead the Dragon cruise, I will lead it. As long as I can go on the Sat. ride.

I wanted to go on the other cruise, but with no one wanting to lead the Dragon cruise I deceided to do it. With as much time as I spend on the Dragon, I was wanting to go somewhere else. What's bad is I am going to be there on May 21st too!

Then dont lead it. Someone will step in if a group wants to go. Evn if they havent been I can give directions, its not hard to find

There is only two in sofar, if no more than this goes it shouldn't be a problem for them to find it and I can go on the other cruise. If enough want to go 10 or more, I will lead the Dragon cruise.
I want to have my picture taken driving the Tail of the Dragon.
There is normaly 3 pro photographers taking pics while you drive past them. They normaly have the pics uploaded to their sites the next day. Killboy.com is one of them, can't remember the other two.

I agree with Gina, and Mike. I have ridden it on my Harley. It is BAD to meet a "crotch rocket" on the corners, in your lane, on another bike. In an R.... BE CAREFUL. Even if you are able to stay in your lane (which is hard even at the posted speeds), a lot of bikes don't. And GOD forbid you get a tanker truck (this happened to me on my bike) in one of the turns. I will guarantee you he will be in your lane, and you will be filling your drawers!
Tuesday / Wednesday are actually the best days for the Dragon, NEVER try it on a Saturday / Sunday!

I want to run the Dragon. Friday would be the day for me.
I dont think my R has ever been on a curvy road!!! It has lived in South FLorida!!
I can meet on friday AM.
....I can lead, but we may all end up in a ditch!!!

With a group rookies don't need to lead, as it is a dangerous road on a good day! Don't beleave me, check out the Robert Mitchem movie Thunder Road, a lot of it was filmed on the Dragon!

Not to Hijack, but wanted to get this out to all with the urgency it deserves, so I will post this on all threads having anything to do with the Maggie Valley event.
Please see the t-shirt thread post #1.
After 3 months of working with the printer on the shirts, they tell me that the original "Natural" shirt color isn't available to the Ladies!
So we had to pick another color. Gina and I feel the selection still goes with the Natural for the Mens shirts, and maybe a bit MORE feminine! It is called "Haze" which is a light yellow.
But wanted to give all that ordered a Ladies shirt a chance to cancel their order if they wanted to.

How long will it take to do the Dragon Run and drive to and from?
I dont want to miss anything!!
The Dragon takes about 22 minutes oneway, so about 45 min round trip without stopping for pics on the other end. The Dragon is app 80 miles from MV and takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to.
I expect to arriving Thursday, late afternoon. Maybe anyone that wants to do the Dragon Tail can meet after dinner to set up all the details for the run.
I am staying at the Maggie Valley Inn & Conference Center. My Cell is 732-904-6203.
