I checked into the car show at Gators on the 13th. Looks like a modest event. It is free and on from Noon til 5.00pm. If we want to be in the show, we should get there a little before noon.
A good alternative might be the parking at Johns Pass Boardwalk. From here it is a couple of minutes walk across the street to the beach or across the bridge to Gators.
We could wrap up with a cruise south along Gulf Boulevard to Passe a Grille for cocktails at the Hurricane.
Maybe this is a bad weekend for people ... it is right in the heart of back to school time. Would there be more interest if it was moved out a little further?
I'm going to head down to Gators on Sunday. I'll plan to arrive around 11.30 - 11.45. This should enable us to get parking together. If anyone is coming from out of town, Gators can be found immediately south of the draw bridge at John's Pass. If you are approaching from the East, once in St Petersburg, travel west on Central Avenue. This will take you to Treasure Island. At the very end of Central, turn right (North) on Gulf Blvd. Just before you get to the draw bridge, there is a small road / drive on the right with a sign for Gators.
An easier / more scenic route would be head south on I275. Take the St Pete Beach exit (watch out for this otherwise you might end up with an unplanned trip over the Sunshine Skyway bridge!) Take the Pinellas Bayway to St Pete Beach. Turn right onto Gulf Blvd at the Don Cesar (big pink hotel). Travel north towards Madeira Beach (watch out for the swing right / left at the traffic light at end of St Pete Beach) This will take you through Treasure Island and as above look for the right turn before the draw bridge.
The beach is literally across the street so bring flip flops and sun screen! The boardwalk at Johns Pass has lots of restaurants, bars and many interesting shops to explore!
Hey guys, it was great to meet up with you at Gators. It was nice to finally put a face to the screen names. Here's the video I shot just before we left...
