I've been looking for a new place to settle down and retire. Every time I look around I end up in the area of Jefferson NC. We have family In Harpers Ferry, WV and Hagerstown, MD so we wouldn't be that out of touch with everyone. I also have family and friends in florida which would be a long days drive. Any body here care to comment about the area of Jefferson ?

NOT an answer to your question but . . . the weather in Southern Arizona, as well as the cost of living, is the BESTEST!

Hi Gina:

Jefferson is north of you, up in the corner of the state. I choose that area for its climate and elevation and its proximity to WV. It will also get me closer to a lot of SSR activity. The fact that property is inexpensive and taxes are low doesn't hurt a bit either.

I have an old friend who moved to the Maggie Valley area about 5 years ago. I'll have to look up his address. His phone number is 864-231-XXXX, and he lives right next to some lake in the area.

Regards, Chick

Well I think we will make the retirement move to Wisconsin this year. Leonard still has his roots there. My whole family came from there. Not any left that I know anyway. I'm the California kid and will be so happy to mooooooooooove on. Not sure what part yet but lake or river side for us. We will be looking for wherever we go.

That's the area the wife and I would like to retire. We spent 16 years living in eastern NC and got burned out with the beach after 5 years. We then began heading west for vacations and fell in love with the western NC. Boone, Blowing Rock, Mt. Mitchell, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure were our favorites. We couldn't visit the Moses H. Cone house on the Blue Ridge Parkway enough. Though the last time we were there, while looking out from the porch it looked like condos were going in across the valley.

I've got about 10 more years before I can retire...western NC is still #1 on our list.

Did a mapquest, 159 miles from me. Wonder if your friend is at Lake Lure.

864 is an upstate South Carolina Area Code. It could be Lake Jocasse... That is on the NC/SC border

This is my first post on this forum so we'll see how I do...

I live just south of Jefferson in Todd. Was interested in this thread as I was looking to see if there are any SSR drivers near where I live. Anyone in or near Ashe County please let me know. Just picked up my '06 SSR because I'm without any V8 bikes right now which are my usual toys. Getting ready to put a Magna Charger on and was wondering if any close by members are good wrenchers or if anyone knows any quality performance shops in this area. Thanks,

Elliot (Elsboss)
