Looking for Local Knowledge in Ohio, Ky, TN, NC and SC

We are looking for some local knowledge of, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North and South Carolina. We are planning a three-week tour of these areas looking for great photographic opportunities. Especially the fall colors, we are heading east about the 12 or 13th first to Ohio, a family visit for a couple of days. We hope you all can help us find, covered bridges, old barns, water falls, great views, any help would be appreciated.

If you don't know, Elaine and I are professional photographers and our family have galleries in Sedona AZ, Maui Hi, Santa Fe NM, and Gatlinburg TN. We are trying to get some local shots mostly for the Gatlinburg Gallery. So give us some local flavor and some directions or addresses please. If you would like to see some of our work check out our website "#1 Eclectic Image, Fine Art Photography" - Selling quality photographs including Polaroid Manipulations, black and whites, and Impressionistic style. -photography, arts, gallery, galleries, photographs, fine arts, fine art photography, black and whi

Thanks

Elaine and Duane Morgan

Work has sent me to Cincinnati in the past. The previous couple trips, I've stayed in Covington/Newport KY, just across the river. A couple of spots i remember;
1) University of Northern KY - just south of Covington - very green hills - skunks running about on the campus. The road from Covington to the Uni took me past "Mackys" (sp?) - was/still is? a haunted nightclub...

2) Devou park just out of Covington - GREAT view back toward Cincinnati - across the river -

3) The footbridge from Newport to Cincinnati was interesting - didn't have a camera when I walked across...

4) Followed Marty and Dee back from Woodward 2008 - via Defiance Ohio back to Cincinnati. Took Highway 127 South and found some interesting vistas...

Don't miss the train station in Cincy...It is one of the last remaining vintage stations...

Lexington, KY area is great too with Keeneland race track and all the local horse farms.

Some great b/w shots in that area...

Thanks, this exactly what I was looking for! You know I was born less that 60 miles from Cincy and I never have even heard anything about the train station.

Thanks

Duane, Start in Fort Royal Virginia on the Shenandoah parkway, or it's called Skyline Drive all the way down to the Blueridge Parkway to Asheville NC. From about Oct 15th to Oct. 19th it is usually in full color about that time. Also the Mountion Loral is in full blume in May and June on the Blueridge Parkway in Spring time.

For old buildings I love Charleston and some of the old plantations outside town. If you walk the streets down around the Battery you feel like you stepped back in time, and any minute you'll be swept away by a tall-dark-handsome bodice-ripping pirate/black-sheep-of-super-rich-noble-family...

Here is a link of an excellent photo of Looking Glass Rock and directions.

Also, if you go into Hendersonville, NC Carl Sandburg's home is open for visitors. His home and about 150 acres is a National Historic Site.

Thanks to all, but I am still looking for more input, so if you do have a favorite photo location, let us know where to find it.

We won't be travelling with "Bigwave", but will be driving our "Yellow SSR" on the three week travel shoot, so we hope to see you out there.

West Virginia

While you're in the area you owe it to yourself to spend some time in West Virginia. Stay off the interstates, pick some state hwys, the small towns and the scenery in the mountians will not disapoint you!

My cheap advice for the day.

A special thanks to all of you that gave me input to your special places, we did not make it to all that you listed maybe next time.

Elaine and I just returned from a 6,200 mile tour in the "Pineapple" yellow R, we had a great time but only saw 3 R,s on the whole trip. I thought I would post a couple of the new photos of the Smoky Moutains that we did and will have them in our Gatlinburg TN gallery in a couple of weeks and the other galleries shortly after that.

It is great to be back,

Duane

Good to hear from everyone

Thanks, it is good to hear from everyone, and the trip was awesome. Most of the stream pics are from the Tn and Nc area, it was way cool.

The Gatlinburg gallery has been open about 3 months, it still needs a little work. And we are busy with the local photos for the gallery.

Love you all,

Elaine and Duane
