Had a really great experience at Ft Rucker over the 4th of July weekend. Gary Senise, (Lt Dan from Forest Gump & CSI New York), has a band (he plays bass). They travel to military posts and bases and overseas to play for our troops. My understanding is, 4 out of every 5 dollars they make after expenses go to survivors of lost soldiers & other such causes. Well, Ft Rucker had Freedom Fest on the 2nd of July (my birthday is the 4th and Mark insisted we attend..despite the 100 degree weather the week before)well, that day dawned cloudy and cooler (90)The whole post was open to the public and there were 30,000 people there for the show...and what a show!
We all spend alot of time bitching about what's wrong with this country, but I gotta tell ya..a man like that, with the world by the tail, giving back like that...just cause he wants to?
Makes me proud.
BTW...the VIP section was for folks waiting for wounded soldiers to come home, not just for officers and their wives.
That sounds like a great time! I love to tour the base when it's open. Nothing makes someone proud than seeing all those men and women in uniform. Did you take pictures?
Well, we tried to take pics, but, like I always say I need a teenager to help me run today's technology (cept my R, of course!)
I gotta agree, tho, Gary Senise is a Patriot, along with every man woman & child associated with our armed forces! I'm so lucky my Mark is stateside, but without the support of our stateside forces, the forces elsewhere, wherever needed in the world could not function...and our military men women and families need our support. Always.
What I love about Gary Senise is he quietly just does it.. he puts action above anything else. He has been helping our troops for YEARS!! I remember an interview years ago... shortly after the fall of Saddam. He organized school supplies for kids... BUT he gave it to the soldiers to hand out. It wasn't about him.. it was about the troops. Talk about a class act!!
You got it...he had a 12 piece badn up there, and all afternoon in the hot Alabama sun, they all took breaks....I never saw him so much as take a sip of water, but he never once let them even mention his name...is was all about the troops, the other band members, the troops, the troops, the survivors....can't say enough about this man and his efforts
