With SSR fanatics and 67-72chevy truck forums both represented I guess I'd better figure out a way to get there. I think work will be getting in the way though.

Just made my reservations at the Maggie Valley Inn & Conference Center and they have 6 rooms left in the SSR reserved block. So if you don't have your room yet, better get crackin'. Nothing left on the 1st or 2nd floor. 3rd and 4th floors are both smoking and non-smoking.

An experience not to be missed, Art. The first thing you have to adjust to is how green everything is ! ! I loved Maggie Valley. My decision is tenuous also, however, for just the opposite reason - no work getting in the way.
Where on track for more than 110. Let's push them westies harder.
Four years ago when WOW and I dropped the idea of a event in Maggie to Gina, I thought it was a good spot. I thought it would draw a good number, but not like this. Hope Gina will not wear out for years to come and get's some help from other inn keepers and town in whole.

I'm gonna try my best to keep the rally going! Not doing the cooking will take a big load off this year. The owner from the other hotel is doing a lot to help out also this year.
I am heading home a week early this year to get some work done with this rally. I need to scout out some routes. Thats a hard job!!!
I have some help from fellow fanatics also and will probably recruit some more help from the fanatics!!!!

Gina,
There is a great trail ride map I bought at the inn at the bottom of the Dragon. It has many day trips (color coded), in a complete circle throughout the corners of TN, GA, NC, SC. If you are not familier with it PM me and I'll try to find mine and get you the name or web site.
I bought it when I rode the Dragon on my Anniversary HD Softail Classic, also black!
BudHorse
Kennesaw GA
I wonder what those Basta#d bikers (Rice Burners) would say to 110 pus R's on the tail....
I heard they were going to put speed bumps on the Tail. My brother in law rode it in early fall last year and they weren't there yet but the locals said they were coming.

Gina,
That winding road out of Asheville that takes you to Chimney Rock/Lake Lure would be nice. The last time I was there we ate at a nice a nice diner/bar at the one end of the lake heading out of Lake Lure. Can't recall the name. There's also the Blue Ridge Parkway run to Mt Mitchell. How far is Grandfather Mtn form Maggie? Walking across the mile high bridge it a hoot.
Let me know whatever I can do from here to help.

RUMOR: Tennesse is going to install rumble strips or speed bumps on the Dragon.
Talk about making the road dangerous !! This is a federal highway and we doubt than any such alterations would be allowed.
also found this letter (don't know if it's official or not):
Thank you for your e-mail concerning US 129 (Tail of the Dragon).
Unfortunately it appears that misinformation is being presented
regarding the installation of speed bumps along the highway. The
Department has conducted a review of the location due to its high
crash history. Recognizing that this stretch of highway is a popular
tourist area for motorcyclists, the Department has looked at measures
to reduce the crash history without compromising safety to the motorcyclist.
This is a false rumor and should be ignored. Measures that are planned
include improved signing and marking, paving some roadside areas to
minimize loose gravel on the road surface, and doing some spot roadside
improvements to lessen the impact to the rider who loses control.
Obviously speed is a factor in many of the crashes that have occured.
We ask that all riders drive responsibly and obey the rules of the road so
they may have a safe and enjoyable ride and not risk injury to themselves
or others along the route.
Enjoy the Dragon and ride safe.

This is a nice ride and I am checking it out as soon as I get home.
I am going to break the rides up and offer 2-3 rides at once because no way can 100 SSR's stay in formation through the mountains and no restaurant accomodate the 200+ people.
I will need a volunteer to lead the tail of the dragon ride (I will be busy leading another ride!)
My aircard has expired so I no longer have internet in the motorhome. My current campground does have a hot-spot so I wont be on the site as much until I get home but will check in daily.
