Maggie Valley 2011 Cruises
Please read the following options for the group rides or area attractions and sign up for which activity you choose to partcipiate in. If you plan on attending a group ride please sign up in advance instead of just showing up. This has happened a lot in the past and I have had 20 more unexpected vehicles on a run than I had not planned for.
I need a volunteer to lead the Dragon Tail if ya'll want to go as a group to these.
FRIDAY
I will be offering a group ride through the Smoky Mtn park on over into TN to Cades cove. This is a long ride with no lunch stop. Scroll down for more info on this cruise. Also pix below from my dry run to Cades cove.
If you dont like the longer rides you may consider the following suggestions: I would advise all to take advantage of the area attractions, there are some good ones. Also if you want to do any of these attractions as a group I can start a sign up sheet for each of these.
Smoky Mountain Railroad. Great Smoky Mountains Railroad: Bryson City, NC
The tickets start at $49 per person. When I spoke with them they told me the excusion offered that day was the Nantahala Gorge Excursion. You get off the train for an hour at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. There are a couple of restaurants there and also a couple of watering holes. You can enjoy lunch and a cold brew and watch the rafters go by. I had lunch here the other day and did just that. It was very nice.

update on the smokey mtn rr trip for friday, may 20, 2011. I have an open air car "the whitter" reserved for us as ssrfanatics on a first come first served basis. They added this the 2nd open air car for us just now. (long story to be told under the hut ) you need to make your advance reservations asap, informing them you are with the ssrfanatics group and you want to be seated on "the whitter". Total is $50.96 per person which includes tax and 4% historic preservation fee. We will pick up our tickets that morning when we arrive. {if you have already made your reservations, please call 1-800-872-4681 and have them change your reservation to "the whitter" if not you will be on the other open air car.} if you do not make advanced reservations, you might not get to sit with us, also if all seats fill up, you will miss our train ride. I am the first to book kim & i a seat on "the whitter". It has 55 total seats w/ 53 remaining. Note: There are 35 seats remaining on the other open air car (not the whitter) which they will fill first before allowing the general public to be seated on our car. I tried but could not get the $5.00 per vehicle waved, but if all holds together we will be allowed to park as a group in their overflow lot.
Again, please make your advanced reservations asap for "the whitter" !!!
Also, if you have already made your reservations before this morning, call smokey mtn and ask to be changed to "the whitter".
Hope this helps for a great fun time together during our ssrfanatics in maggie valley 2011, little train ride.
Friday 9:45-Briefing at Ghost Town parking lot. We will depart at 10 AM. (This is a long run so we will depart at 10 AM sharp)
Cades Cove is about 80 (mountain)miles from Maggie Valley followed by an 11 mile one way loop through Cades cove. This will be a long trip. There will be no lunch stop due to the fact that there are no restaurants along the route. It is VERY, VERY important that you take a cooler packed with drinks and snacks. Also there are no convenience stores along the route either. We will be stopping at the rest stop in the Smoky Mtn park at the NC/TN border for a bathroom break. This will be our only group stop. Once we get into Caves Cove that is where we will break up as a group. The pull offs are small and we will not be able to pull off together for viewing. The road over to Cades Cove has some beautiful creekside scenery also but pull offs are small. Use the ride back to utilize the stops for photo opportunities because we want be able to do this as a group. There are bathroom facilities in Cades Cove about halfway round the loop. For the route back you can go back over the mountain (my preferred route since we are on that side of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and avoid all the traffic. Also you can pull over at the stops we didn’t get to on the mountain as a group for photo ops). You may also choose to go back through Townsend, TN on into Pigeon Forge/Seiverville, TN where there are plenty of restaurants. Warning-Traffic can be very heavy over there due to it’s a very touristy area. You will then take I-40 back to Maggie if you choose this route. Gatlinburg would be another route or stop back home home but again traffic and parking is tough over there on weekends. From Gatlinburg you can come back over the mountain or go on to I-40 through Pigeon Forge. Another option would be to go into Townsend for lunch and then turn back and go back over the mountain instead of going in to the Pigeon Forge area.
SATURDAY
Hot Springs NC cruise Welcome to Hot Springs, NC
We will depart Maggie Valley at 10:30 AM. (departure point to be announced)
Hot Springs is a small quaint town north of Asheville. It is a very pretty drive over with a short stretch of some good curves! Once there we will park on will have 1 1/2 hours to shop and dine at the restaurant of your choice. We will cruise back to Maggie the same route we came over on. You can crusie back with the group or depart on your own and take whatever route you choose back.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON JOINING THE GROUP CRUISES SO I CAN START A SIGN UP SHEET. IT WILL BE ON POST # 2 AND # 3 OF THIS THREAD.
The same for Karen and Scott! Biltmore and Hot Springs.
Biltmore is a great place to go. One thing I reccommend doing is the behind the scenes tour and the roof top tour. You get to go places that isn't on the regular tour and get to see the inner workings of Biltmore.
