Maggie Valley 2011 Tuning Sign-up Thread (for services by Jeremy Formato/Fasterproms)
Would you like to get tuning/porting services by Fasterproms (Jeremy Formato) done while at the Maggie Valley Rally May 19th-21st? This thread to determine if there is enough interest for Jeremy to make the trip from Florida. Spoke with him today & he will check his schedule and let us know if it is feasible on his end.
Post the specific services you would like to have done in this thread and I'll keep the list below updated. For those who haven't heard of him Jeremy has probably tuned more SSRs on the east coast than other. He offers multiple services, my guess is the two most popular are the "Street Performance Tune" for $300 and "Throttle Body Porting" for $150 (to get both done is $400, not $450). The products page on his website (to determine what you would like to have done) is here: Fasterproms - Independent LSX Tuner & Porter for 94-08 GM Vehicles . Not sure which services will be available (for example, Dyno tuning involves locating a Dyno to rent, ect). Just post all of the services that you desire to have performed and we will determine what is possible (and nail down days/times) in the next couple of weeks.
Sign-up List:
ZoomAddict - Street Performance Tune
CarterSSR - Street Performance Tune
pikeville904 - Street Performance Tune + Throttle Body Porting

Both added to the list. Carter if you would like the throttle body porting along with the tune LMK. Only reason I didn't is my truck is already ported.
This will be great if we can get it done, didn't want to do it by mail. Will update the first post in this thread when I hear back from Jeremy re his schedule. We will need about ten jobs to make it worth the trip so spread the word.
Also, if anyone with an 05/06 is looking to get a throttle body ported, and also wants to retain their stock parts, I have a new stock throttle body (it is GM Part #12572658 which is OEM for the 05/06) for $99 (prices online for these are $150 - $200). Just PM or post here in the thread if wanted and I'll bring it to Maggie.
This one will not fit the 5.3L in the 03/04 models (the plug wiring is different if I remember correctly) but pretty sure a new stock TB for that engine can be picked up for around $100 online if needed.
If this is confusing: Jeremy can port the throttle body that is on your truck, the only reason you would need another one is if you wanted to keep all the stock parts (for future resale value).

I know Jeremy will not have the use of a Dyno at Maggie Valley. Has he ever done a 2004 SSR at his shop that he has ran on a Dyno before and after? Can the results be posted here? Thanks.

While on the phone with Jeremy yesterday Carter he checked and said it may be possible to do dyno tunes (he had a list of dynos that he could rent time on in the area). Depends on the interest level (how many would have it done). I'm sure he has dyno'ed the '03/'04 SSR and can tell you what the results have been. Give him a call at FasterProms, the number there is (813) 476-7364.

A little more info on tuning. A street tune is for all around performance, dyno tuning is for max hp at wide open throttle. For the best tuning you would do both, but for general all around improvement a good street tune is the way to go.
What adjustments are included in the Street Performance Tune ?
For any tuning you change timming, fueling cooling fan settings and if auto trans some of the settings for it. It sounds simple, but there is a whole lot more to it than it sounds. There are several tables to change for each section I listed.

Jeremy will determine what needs to be done (he will ask you things like what altitude is the truck normally driven, are you looking for max horsepower/max gas mileage, etc then he will tune accordingly.
He will also ask about things like fan settings (since they are set to come on higher than most prefer from the factory). For example both the '03 and '05 here normally run at 240 to 250 degrees in any weather except winter with the factory settings. As part of the tune the fans can be set to come on sooner so the truck will run cooler in stop-n-go traffic, etc).
Our trucks (all years) were generally tuned conservative from the factory so a computer tune can really wake them up without any disadvantages (like lower gas mileage).

No problem. Looks like there will not be enough interest to get Jeremy to come to the rally this year.
I have an 03 with 20,000 miles, is it really money well spent for a tune-up for city driving back and forth to work? Maggie is the first real trip for this truck and a $300.00 tune-up may/may not be the best return on money spent. And what is the opinion on gas additive, like Lucas on each tankful? Comments please.

There has not been enough interest this time 'round to get Jeremy to come and tune. Is it worth it? He usually tunes to provide more "ummph!" but from what I understand he can tune for better milage (no idea how much more).
I'll let others chime in about gas additives. I usually add something three or four times a year (injector cleaner a couple times, standard stuff a couple times). The injector cleaner does usually help with the idle on most cars if it is rough at all, only concrete evidence I have that any of it does anything.

The "driveabilty" will be improved - for sure.
