Maggie Valley Friday Cruise April 30, 2010
First I apologize for having to change the original cruise to Hot Springs, NC. Its hard to park over there and found out theres a festival going on so that one is out.
After a day of scouting a route yesterday I have decide that we will cruise over to Brevard, NC on Friday.
Departure Time: 10:00 from the Ghost Town parking lot.
Ghost Town is located at the west end of Maggie Valley 4 miles from my motel. This means BE ready to depart at 10:00 NOT arrive at 10:00.
We will cruise hwy 276 through Pisgah National Forest over to Brevard. They have a nice little downtown Main Street area. I went to their Chamber of Commerce/Visitors Center yesterday and talked with them. They are located on Main Street also. They assisted me in coming up with a parking plan so that we will be able to dine and take a stroll down Main Street. There are two different churches that we can park at (if there is no funeral at the church). Between the two of the churches hopefully one lot will be empty. One is located across from the Chamber and the other is one block off of Main Street.
For you GPS types here is the address. Be sure and put in shortest distance or it will take the Asheville route if not.
Brevard Chamber of Commerce
175 East Main Street
Brevard, NC 28712
There are several restaurants on Main and also some right off of Main that are within walking distance. You will also find several stores and gift shops to visit. We will spend 1 hour and 30 minutes on Main Street. This should give everyone time to eat.
We will depart from Main and go westbound on 64 over to hwy 215. We will take 215 back across the mountain and this will take us back to 276 and back home. This will be a loop ride.
Reply to this post if you want to sign up for this crusie.
Things to keep in mind before you sign up:
1. There are some curvy roads on this cruise (not everyone likes the curves)
2. Pack a small cooler with drinks (we will be in Pisgah National Forest for parts of the cruise and there are no stores)
3. Be sure and empty your bladders when you get the chance because there are no facilities in the Forest on our ride home. When we get to the end of hwy 215 we will be back on hwy 276 and you should be able to recognize your way home from there. There is a convienience store on the right when we get back on 276. I wont do a group stop there because of parking but you can drop out there if need be.

Gina, along your route is well known waterfall, called Looking Glass Falls, 60' high. It is along the Hwy 276, no walking and easy to view from the sidewalk. But, parking is very limited.

Thats why were not stopping there (parking, I was by there yesterday)! We may stop at sliding rock (just before the Falls, ample parking ) if they havent started charging admission yet.

The last time we visited sliding rock there was a $1.00 per person fee, when lifeguards and rangers are on duty.

Yes I am aware of this. I stopped there yesterday also. It was open but no lifeguards and facilities (restrooms) not open so no admission fee yesterday. Lifeguards dont start until Memorial day so I'm hoping admission charges dont start until either.
Its really a shame that we cant go to a LOT of places I would love to take everyone to, theirs just no parking for a large group.

Gina, Can you create some small groups and assign someone to lead that group. At some point in the day, all the group could meet at one central location.

On our way there in '08, both the lot and facilities were open, no charge until Memorial Day, I think. I Needed the Pit Stop....

I did 3 separate cruise the year I had 116 SSR's.
We have a dragon tail ride on Friday also, so not going to expand beyond the two rides this year.
Problem is finding someone to lead the group, not everyone knows the area.
I understand, Everyone needs to bring TP because the bathrooms are still winterized as of now. We have plenty of natures bathrooms.
You could do like the bear did and foget the TP. The story goes Deep in the woods sat a bear and a squirrel at the communal latrine. "Hmmm" says the bear to the squirrel, Do you find that s**t tends to stick to your fur? "Yes it does" replies the squirrel. "Great" says the bear, and wipes his a$$ with the squirrel.
