I missed Wingrider's Tech Session on replacing the ignition switch on Friday because I went up to the Truck show to be in the parade with the other SSR's. There weren't any other SSR's, so I thought oh well, I'll have to wait until another time to find out how to replace the ignitian switch. It probably won't break while I am in Maggie Valley anyway.
Sunday morning, I was going to do a run up on the Blueridge Parkway. I went down to the BP station, to get some change and some ice. Went to the carwash across the street from Gina's, gotta wash the truck before going on a run. Back accross the street to gather up the cameras and get ready to go on my run. Get the tripod in, camera mounted. I "started" the truck, but I thought better write down my milage from the DIC for Trip A, I keep track of the miles on each day's runs. Time to switch the CD's too, need some good crusin' music. Ready to go. Turn the Key... truck doesn't start. Turn it back to accessory, try again, nothing. Can't get the key out....Oh no it must be the ignition switch!!!
to be continued in the next post....

Maggie Valley Midnightrider's "Tech Session" part II
As panic starts to set in, HotrodGirl to the rescue, she has an extra ignition switch with her. I pay her for the switch, and the SSR fantatic Pit crew goes to work. Fuzzy and Jeff jump right in and start working on the steering console. Lonnie, Steve, Jim and I supervise. Within a few minutes Fuzzy has the new switch in, truck starts right up. Great, another successful tech session at an SSR rally??
Not quite. Fuzzy asks me with a little grin on his face, "did you have in Drive when you tried to start it? The gear shift was in the way and Jeff moved it back into park."
"Uhmm, well let me think...... I got in, "started" the truck." (Not actually, I just had it on accessory to see the DIC info, put it in Drive).
Started fiddling witht he CD's.... and......Uhmmmm.....
So now I am realizing that I just replaced a switch in my truck, when I should have replaced a switch in my head. WAKE UP!!!!!
Next, Jeff and I put back in the original switch, Fuzzy supervises and instructs. Guess what it works!!!! This proves that I am an idiot, but I have learned valuable lessons:
1) Take advantage of those tech sessions when they are available, you never know when you might need to put the info into action.
2) You should be prepared, like Hotrod Girl, carry an extra switch.
3) The value of having SSR Fanatic friends;
providing a mini tool set at no charge
1 ignition switch $35
6 SSR fanatic technicans 1 hr min charge @ $100/hr = $600
Make sure the truck is in PARK before trying to start it....... PRICELESS
Thanks for the help HotrodGirl, Fuzzy and Jeff.
I did return Hotrod Girl's switch, but I broke the tab for holding a wiring harness. Deb I'll send you a new switch, when I get back to MD.
After my lapse in intellegence this morning, I was able to have a nice ride along the Blueridge Parkway this afternoon....

No problem Ed, I havn't started an official list yet for the 2008 dvd, but will keep you posted. I'll try to have the MV stuff up on YouTube in a couple of weeks. My HD is so full on the laptop right now I can't even download the vids from today.
Thanks for the prints, they are very cool.

On our cruise to Lake Lure Friday, one of our group (No names) couldn't lower his top and we all gathered around to help. Finally, one genius noticed that his cargo lid was ajar and sure enough the top went down, smooth as silk.

I'd like a copy of this year's video, too, Brian, whenever you get around to it. I understand there's a decent Mongolian BBQ place up in Bethesda - maybe Dave and I can meet you for dinner sometime. Sorry to hear about your near-problems. We had a great run up the Blue Ridge Parkway - ran across Gary G and Monica along the way.

Yes, Ed, you do. We'll try to make sure the Mini Cooper run isn't the same weekend.

As I told you in MV don't worry about the switch.....If I need it I'll find a way to make it work even with the tab broke As you can see I carry many miscellaneous items in my trunk
Thanks for the free tech session as I missed it when wingrider did it too
Very much enjoyed getting to spend some one on one with you!!!!!
[size="3"]Sorry to laugh Brian, but that sure sounds like something I woulda done.

Thanks guys. You just have to laugh at yourself sometimes, so why not share it with others. I had a blast the entire time I was in MV.
Reality set in yesterday evening when I was making pretty good time on the return trip until 6 miles from home and TRAFFIC. I really noticed the stress and frustration on everyone's face as I sat there in traffic waiting through two cylcles on the light before moving. 45 min for the last 6 miles. I still made it home in about 8.5 hours with stops.
I really needed this break, and I can't think of a better group of folks to spend it with. On to the videos......
Jewlz, I would like to meet up with you and Dave for dinner some evening. I am not sure if the Mongolian BBQ place moved or closed. The Wisconcin Ave. location now has a Persian resturaunt there. There are plenty of other choices in Bethesda though. We probably have as many resturants as the Dragon's Tale has Curves
