Gina asked me to start a thread on the 2010 edition of our Show & Shine at this year's Maggie Valley Rally, and pass along some information that she provided me with concerning location, parking, etc.
Our show will be held on Saturday, May 1 from 10:00am to 12:00 pm at:
The coffee shop is beside a real estate company and Gina says there is plenty of parking. She says that the real estate company is fine with this, and that they also have parking out back that can still be seen from the road where the non-participants will be parking.
Gina and I would like to get a head count of those interested in participating in the competition, so that we can get an idea of how large of an area that we will need to reserve for the contestants. The fanatics in the competition are going to be parked in the very front by the road, and the rest of attending fanatics are going to be parked as mentioned above.
This year our competition will again be in 9 voted categories. There will be trophies awarded for both 1st and 2nd place in each of the first 8 categories. The winner of this year's "Smokin' Asphalt of the Rally", category #9, will receive 2 Rally T-shirts. A trophy for "Long Distance" (Category #10) will also be awarded to the fanatic having driven their SSR from the furthest distance away.
The competition categories will be as follows:
1. Best of Show
2. Best Custom Paint (includes stripes, graphics, etc., but no flames)
3. Best Flames
4. Best Pinstriping
5. Best Interior
6. Best Engine Bay
7. Best Cargo Area/Display
8. Best Stock Wax Job (no custom paint, flames, or elaborate pinstriping)
9. Smokin' Asphalt of the Rally
10. Long Distance (must have driven your SSR to rally)
The voting will be for the top 3 places in each of the first 8 categories, with points awarded as follows: 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, and 1 for 3rd. The points will be totaled, and will determine the 1st and 2nd place finishers.
I tried doing our show a bit differently last year by encouraging all of the attending fanatics and their wives/husbands/partners, in the competition or not, to participate in the voting. I received positive feedback from several of the folks for including them in the voting process, so we will do it that way again this year. My overall intent is to try to engage as many of the fanatics as possible, giving us all another event to look forward to for the weekend.
I know I shouldn't say "that dreaded word", but I've got an idea for a backup plan in the event of rain on Saturday. I've passed it along to Gina, and I'll elaborate on it later, assuming/after she gets the go ahead. I'm determined that we'll get the competition in, one way or another. However, if any of you fanatics have a good "no-rain" dance, you are strongly encouraged to exercise it leading up to that Saturday. Like Gina told me this evening, if we have a backup plan, maybe we won't need it.
So, those fanatics interested in participating in the competition, please let me know by posting to this thread, and I will continually update the list.
Let's get it on!!!!!

I'm in but don't know what class I would be in.
Maybe best Smokin' Asphalt of the Rally.
That is what my build sheet say's it came off the line as.
Charlie,
Come on now, your SSR you would certainly be in contention in the "Best of Show" and "Best Custom Paint" categories. On the other hand, I understand that your build sheet says Smokin' Asphalt, but the way it looks now.....it's definitely smokin', but their isn't much of the asphalt part left.
