Memphis in Oct.
I EDIT THIS to include year on the first post...since it was last year. The new post below is for this year.
I will be on a business trip in Memphis Oct 16th-19th. 2006
It looks like I will be free for dinner Monday the 16th. 2006
Seeing that I will not have my SSR, and because I will be traveling with 2 others I will not have a vehicle at my disposal at all, I was wondering if any one in the area would like to show me their SSR and maybe drive me to dinner somewhere.
I will be at the Downtown Marriott.
Let me know if you are wondering who this guy with 88,000 miles on his SSR is really like....

Wish I were closer I would take you for a spin Have fun!
Let me check my work load and I might be able to address your wish. We have several projects that are as hot as the weather is here. (105 deg. f) If I can break loose its a deal. I'm right on the other side of the mighty Miss. river. The plant I work at is right on the ARKANSAS side of the river. I can see downtown Memphis as we speak.

Last time I was there I stayed at the Marriott in downtown. The room rate was $500 a night.....it was a nice little room.....BUT freakin' $500 a night?!??!. I'd expect a suite with a kitchen for that price. What goes on in Memphis that people would pay that?
Luckily the Government paid....and they paid the government rate of ~$129
oh....just found out that I'm going to be working the 4pm to midnight shift!!!!!! I guess that means there will be even less to do...as Beil (sp?) street won't be open then and I didn't see anything worth doing in the day........but I may just be a little pessimistic
-------------------------------
Just in case you only read the first post, I edited it. That request was made last year for 2006. I will be in Memphis this year 2007 Aug 27-30. And it looks like I will be working second shift.....

This town has something going on all the time. All PRICES ARE CRAZY. Can't beleive that people pay what they pay. You can always go to Beale Street nearly around the clock. I'll try to meet you for lunch if your out of bed by then. Might not be in the SSR. I hate to park anywhere in Memphis and bringing the thing to work is like really bad. I don't get off work till 5:00 pm during the week and that is only if I am lucky. We willl try to hook up for sure. It is bad hot and bad dry in this area. We need some rain to settle the dust. Got to go back to the feild, can't stay under the AC any more.
ok...actually it's the Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) in Memphis
That's right...all air traffic going through the Memphis ARTCC
is going to be controlled by the program I am working on. It is going LIVE at the end of Aug. So I will be flying in, but driving out
Hey John..... does that mean you're contracted to FAA?
Also, Your comment reminds me of a Dilbert strip from many years ago. Wally's in his cubical working on an air traffic control program. He has an "inspiration" to re-use some other code available and imagining "THE CROWD GOES WILD!". Next, he, Dilbert, and Alice are in the lunch room. He's saying "Anyway, I'd avoid flying on payday".

I work for a contractor that has a contract with the FAA....does that answer your question
According to FedEx the program saved them about $80,000 one night.....
The program only runs when there is a heavy load in the system....meaning that planes have to be delayed. The FedEx hub is in Memphis and they fly about 130 planes in from 11pm to 1am every night. It would be best for FedEx if all the planes landed at the same time, but since the airport can only handle about 72 planes an hour, someone has to figure out who gets to land first....and that's what our program does.
