October Cruise Poll ~ Beer, Corvettes or NASCAR

These are the options/suggestions you wanted. The timing this in October will offer the most entertainment and was the overwhelming choice except for one Fanatic attending another function in that same time slot. This poll will be open for 18 days the top selection will be followed up with a more defined schedule including lodging options.

October 21st thru 23rd Cruise

Corvette Museum, Bowling Green, Ky. and Kentucky Bourbon Trail 180 mile cruise.

NASCAR Museum/ or drag races, Charlotte, NC and Hot Air Balloon Fest/BBQ Festival w/ 100 mile cruise

Octoberfest, Helen, Ga and Hillbilly Hog BBQ Throwdown w/ Leaf color cruise to be decided.

Mrs Truckie likes Helen, GA for Octoberfest ( Beer and sausage) we voted for GA
(She always sleeps better with a little sausage in her)

NC is Just farther than we want to go and KY is too close

You have some great choices there. Helen is a neat little town, been there many times. I wont vote in this poll due to the fact that Oct is a very busy time for me. But I may possibly run down for the day if its in either Helen or Charlotte but I sure cant commit. The leaf lookers are out in full force in October

Meg and others interested, I agree with Gina. It's a special place, in the mountains, lots of great roads for a driving thrill, and beautiful color that time of the year. It will be crowded !!!

Kim and I will still be in Daytona FL doing the Harley Davidson Biketober thing during those October days.

I have not voted. Not sure that the time line will fit with our schedule. If I voted it would be for Helen.

Fixed that for you Gina! Too bad I will most likely miss this as the same weekend is my GTO fall run in Maggie Valley. Maybe we might workout a cruise to meet up somewhere for lunch if Helen or Charolette wins.

Looks like Helen is winning, more information to come on lodging optinos and timing on the two area events.

Watch out if its Helen. It IS a great place, but they can get overrun with Bikes, add a flock of SSR's... whoo hoo!

Parking can be a REAL pain even for bikes. David (SSRHEARTBEAT) Michael Roe (SSRROE) and I who bike there often can attest to this. This is not the little towns Gin'a takes us too. There will be a zillion folks there, traffic will be gridlocked, but the beer and brats ARE good!

My vote, Charlotte, and I live less than 100 miles from Helen!

I agree but it's the majority that will win.
I also checked several hotel rates in Helen, trying to avoid the crowds and parking problems by staying in Helen, but they are averaging $200.00 per night where as in in Gainsville, 40 miles away the rates are $84.00 at the Hilton for those same dates.

It's only money!!!!

Gainsville is fine for us though.

If Charlotte wins.... Is there a race there that we would need to get tickets to attend. If not what would the activities include, we have never been there. ( Sorry we are Yankees)

Meg, you might want to stay out of Helen in a cheaper area. Dalonagha is about 25 miles away and is in the less than $100 a night range.

The Charlotte choice says NASCAR.... in what way? what event? is there a museam or tour???

The NASCAR race looks like it the weekend before the 23rd

Talladega is on the schedule for the weekend of the 23rd

If Helen,GA wins we may book in Helen Just for Saturday night and out a bit further Friday night. That way we can have lots of sausage and beer

and not have to drive back to a hotel room out of town. A lot cheaper than a wreck or a DUI....

I totally agree it's a Good Idea on the hotel issue, I am concerned with getting bumped as well as no parking space. Staying in the hotel in Helen for Saturday would hopefully solve both problems and we could walk (i.e. stagger) from place to place.

As far as the Charlotte/NASCAR option: No Race Event Scheduled:
I had planned dinner on the Lake Wylie on Friday night. Saturday morning a 40 mile trip to the Hot Air Balloon Races in Statesville via I-77, leaving there to Lexington , via I-40 for lunch at the BBQ Festival, from there back to Charlotte via-I-85 to the NASCAR museum and back to the base camp hotel for a social drink that night. Hotel rates for that weekend are $84.00 kingsize.

If you want to give up the Hot Air Balloon Race and see a drag race at the drag strip across from Lowes Speedway on Saturday night we could adjust for that.

Either way there is plenty of open road cruise and great companionship lots to eat & drink.

Whatever the final outcome hotel plans, if it is Helen, must be done quickly to even fine an empty room for Saturday in Helen.

Meg

LET ME KNOW NOW SO THAT I CAN GET A BLOCK OF ROOMS SET ASIDE~ ARE YOU COMMITTING FOR FRIDAY & SATURDAY OR JUST ONE NIGHT??

Can you do a one night only? Some hotels have a 2-3 night minimum during special events.

Waiting to see what is required/offered on the group rate. The Day's inn is per night for 2 nights. Truckie suggested stay only on Saturday in Helen and Friday out further to save some money. Waiting to get all the input from the group and the information from the hotel on group rate w/requirements.

ANY SUGGESTION IS APPRECIATED.

Gina, I would be just fine coming back up and staying with you in Maggie!!!

Was subscribed to the other thread & missed this thread completely. Been busy & haven't been on the forum much so thanks for the PM Meg. Will post a permalink to this thread on the original thread discussing this in case others have missed it too.

Voted for Helen but lodging is expensive and the traffic that time of year can be a challenge. Only reason it got my vote is enjoy cruising the mountains that time of year, anywhere that is decided upon is fine with me & up for Fri & Sat

Yeah, I'm cheap there is just no way I am going to do $300 a nite for a hotel. If the group decides to go to Helen GA I might try to make it a day trip. Charlotte would be my choice for a weekend event so I guess we'll see what happens ....

We agree... Less money on hotel means more money to buy cool parts with.

After reading this thread the impression I get is majority may have changed since the poll started (due to all having more information). Sounds like some (if not most) would vote differently after knowing there will be cost/traffic/etc issues in Helen (it is small, expensive, and they are very busy in Oct). Could do another poll. Or since it isn't a large group could just ask those coming to post answers to pertinent questions. Here is how I would answer a couple of'em:

1. Where would you prefer to go?
Helen GA

2. Is the destination the deciding factor?
No, could care less where. Sounding more like more would attend one of the other destinations. Will go wherever the most can attend or where Meg decides would be best.

If the answer to the second question for most is to same then that will provide leeway to move the destination for those who do care. About fun to me, in a second poll I'd wait until most have voted and vote with the majority.
