Poll for Maggie Valley 2008
May 2nd ,3rd , and 4th 2008
This is NOT the official thread for the 2008 Maggie Valley Rally. I am just trying to get some kind of idea of the numbers for the rally. I have been contacted by the promoter and the top sponsor of the GM truck show today. They want us to come back to the show next year. They also want to have a parade in the late afternoon or early evening on Friday. This parade will consist of the entries in the car show, the SSR Fanatics and some Avalanche club that saw us at the show and wants to do what we did. I would like for the SSR's that want to participate in the parade to attach balloons, flags, etc. to really show the other rides up!!!!! Oh yeah, Danny & I get to be the lead SSR!!!!!
Please remember nothing is in stone yet, all this is tentative.
The TENTATIVE schedule would go something like this:
Thursday night- Meet & Greet at Laurel Park Inn. Pizza-Margaritas-boiled goobers (courtesy of MDC SSR). I'm not sure how the pizza will be paid for yet. To be determined.
Friday, a day cruise with a lunch stop somewhere. We have been to Pisgah Inn the past 2 years so may change it up this year. Maybe a cruise over to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Park.
Friday evening-Parade
Saturday- A cruise-in to the truck show like last year. I hope we can make it in 'Truckin Magazine again. Lunch will be on your own. They have food at the show and nearby restaurants also. We will have a dinner and banquet something similar to last year. The banquet room we were at last year is the only one in Maggie Valley other than the Maggie Valley Country Club. I used to have a connection there and then they got bought out and "re-arranged" the staff so I lost that connection. We filled the banquet room this year. If the rally is bigger I'm not sure what we will do, I will think of something though. Also, we got that banquet room free last year because most of the over flow stayed at that hotel. we could open up that dividing wall and spill out into the bar and restaurant area. We would have to start a little earlier though if we use that space so that she can have her band start up at the usual time. We cant cut into their usual Saturday night business.
Danny & I have done the cooking for the Saturday night dinner the past 2 years in order to keep cost down. We wont be able to do that next year. It took us three weekends in a row this year to prepare all the bar-b-q becuase the attendance numbers were up so much. So the free banquet room and us preparing the food put it at a grand total of $7 per person this year. But next year we will have to have the food prepared by the hotel or wherever we have the banquet at. So the price will definitely go up. I just wanted everyone to be aware of that.
I do have $450 in proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets for the banners that were auctioned off that will be used toward something for the 2008 rally.
There are lots of things to do in the area if the truck show is not your thing. There's golfing, rafting, horse back riding, the Biltmore house, Ghost Town Amusement Park, the Great Smoky Mtn. railroad ride, etc.
Please respond to the following poll so I can get a feel for the amount of interest in the "2008 Rally in the Valley"!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could, I wish I could, I wish I could......definitely the downside of being a teacher, we have lots of time off but don't get to pick when it is
Amazing how early we start thinking of the next rally or get together. You can put Debbie and I on the list, as we had a great time this spring. Hoping the weather cooperates a little better next time, but it didn't really "dampen" the fun.

Great, some West Coasties!!!! Will you be driving or flying?
I enjoyed the last one and I'm ready for another. I did not realize last May that we were going to be part of the car show, I thought we were just parking together This year I promise to wash my car before we go! With all the rain last time I just kinda gave up.
I also would like to bring some fish to fry (Bluegill and Crappie), I cant feed everybody . I just thought I might could share some ......kind of informal......The fish would make a nice snack while hanging around the pavillion and porch in the evenings.......goes good with a beer of two, maybe even a margaritta..... I take so many fish per acre out of my pond in late March and April so the timeing would be good. Let me know if interested.
