I guess this means the I-985/Hwy365/Hwy441 route north, huh?!
Vicki, that would be the route.
Same as last year, several of us are already planning on meeting again @ Discovery Mills in front of Bass Pro Shop around lunch time on Thursday the 1st and heading together to Maggie Valley. We are picking up Grandma and MACE on the way. Last year it was us (HEARTBEATS), Purple Penelope, Big Daddy, Peters57chevy, Dragon2u, and a couple more I can't recall. We took it easy, let the tops down, and had the last "dry" drive for a couple days.
THE WEATHER WILL BE BETTER THIS YEAR !!!
Grayfox, thanks for asking about it. Do you live close by? Not trying to take over your convoy... If the time and place work out, we'll all go together.
We have been talking (getting ready for the Mountain Ho Down) about MV since the Panhandle get together.

Well, I don't recall how long it takes to drive from SugarLoaf Parkway to Buford via 85/985, but
if you leave from the Bass Pro Shop around "lunchtime" then I should be home from work and able to meet up with you somewhere along I-985. ( I live halfway between Exits 8 (Friendship Road) and 12 (Spout Spring Road) on 985.)

North Atlanta area to Maggie Valley
When our MV trip gets a little closer, we'll come up with better details and try to accommodate those who want to travel with us. A place with a quick lunch and north of Atlanta I-85/195 area are the main factors. Dick Beville (FL) and a new fanatic friend, Phil LaPage (GA) also want to join us. legend lime, they will be leaving from Kennesaw. Vicki, plan on it, and we will pick you up on the way. Kim has a early meeting that morning also and we will be leaving from Carrollton driving through Atlanta. Glad to finally have you join us.. Grayfox, if you live in the I-85 / I-985 area, you might know a better place to meet and eat. Discovery Mills (@ Swannee) worked fine last year. I'm on the other side of the state but know we DON'T want to meet on GA-20 or any where near the Mall of Georgia.
Gina, you better be (and I know you are ) Proud of us if its a group of 2 or 12...
Discover Mills is a pretty good place to meet and eat in order avoid the traffic mess at Gwinnett Place 'Maul' or the 'Maul' of Georgia. I go to the Discover Mills area about once every two or three years.
Outside of the 'Maul' areas, if you want food, then at most exits there are usually waffle huts, burger joints, and Cracker Barrels (one at Suwanne and a new one in Buford.)
But once you get north of Gainesville there is almost nothing until you reach Franklin, NC. Well, it sure seems that way!

grayfox, unless some one comes up with a better plan, and we are open to "something better", we will probably do as last year.
Last year we met about 11:30 am at Discovery Mills Outlet off I-85 near Bass Pro Shop , ate at the food court, and headed up I-985 / 441 to Maggie Valley. This year there well be 3 R's I know of that we will pick up on the way.
Again, If you or any one know of a better place, please let us know.

Vickie, Will you be able to meet us on 985 between 12:30 to 12:45 ?
Would Exit 12 be better since it's a few more miles north ?
On I-985 North, between Exits 12 (Flowery Branch) and 16 (Oakwood), there is a small "tourist info center/ welcome center/ rest area." The entrance ramp is perhaps 100 feet north of Mile Marker 14. I can meet you there. It will not be necessary for everyone to drive through the parking lot, though - it will suffice for one R to ride through. (I am concerned that if I blink then I might miss everyone passing by on 985!!)
Yes, there is a Sonic, and it is at Exit 16, which is currently the site of a MASSIVE reconstruction/addition of the interchange. I call the area the obstacle course. We do not want to stop there. No way.
Yes, if I only work a couple of hours that morning then I can meet you sometime after 12:00 Noon.
