VA/Eastern NC Fanatics Heading To MV
Not sure how may fanatics from this area are heading to MV. The wife and I are leaving early Thursday morning. Anyone interested in meeting somewhere and put a little caravan together?

Jim,
I'd be interested if we can meet up at a given meeting place. Maybe drawing a line somewhere from Northern Va. to Petersburg or along I-81? I can meet at any given time if need be.
"Jewlz965" also expressed interest...so she may chime in too.

Sounds like fun gang...but from Eastern NC we'll be heading due west and picking up I40. Maybe it'll work out that we can hook up with your large group on the other side of Winston Salem...I think 81 crosses somewhere along there. Looking forward to our first Rally.

I was planning on taking I64 to Richmond, hopping on I95 south for short way then picking up I85 in Petersburg and taking I85 to Durham NC then get on I40. This would be out of the way for those living in the west/NW part of VA. I've made it fropm Gina's place to my house in Williamsburg in 8 hours going this route towing a 6x12 UHaul.

If you go I81 you want to get off it in Wytheville VA and take I77 south to 421 west in Winston Salem which will put you on I40. If you take I81 further west it will eventually take you into Bristol VA/TN. The road maps can be very deceiving. One year we got Bristol tickets late and everything near the track and even in Johnson City TN was booked. We looked at a map and thought Boone NC wasn't too bad of a drive. Boy were we wrong. They just don't draw enough twists and turns to depict how winding those roads are. If you have the time, 86 off I81 down to Pigeon Forge to 441 is a nice ride. However it can be crowded.

Hey Bagger...We'll be taking 264 west to 64 west to I40 in Raleigh. I only mentioned I81 because it was in your earlier post. And you're right...folks on I81 can take I77 down to I40...taken that a few times from the Fancy Gap/Hillsville area. I didn't take 421 though...I usually take that from Winston Salem to Boone. Momentarily forgot...age thing...that I81 doesn't cross I40. Don't need to confuse anyone. Haven't taken 86 off I81 down to Pigeon Forge to 441. But I agree, the maps can be very deceiving. Was meandering around on back roads a couple of years ago and ended up not far from Bristol. Lot of pretty country and back roads in those hills!

VA, DC, MD, DE, NJ, PA Fanatics (and others interested)
Bump.
WOOHOO! 30 days 'til MV. (I'm sure Gina is ready for this gathering to be over and done with.)
If interested in forming a large SSRavan along the route on May 1st, please PM me with location you're driving in from.
Using my handy little Nuvi and Mapquest, I will suggest potential meet-up points and times (flexibility and cell phones for communicating arrival times at meet-up points are KEY).
I will bump this post up every few days from now until April 29th.
Kris and I will be leaving late, around 10AM from the Va. Bch. area but the way I drive, I just may catch up to you guys! Just gotta be careful on route 58! No fast driving on that road. Too many radars out.

You're absolutely right about watching your speed on 58, especially coming into Emporia. I have a theory about why the cops are always out in force in the Emporia area - they're watching out for those Sadler boys.
Gov Kaine is supposed to sign the legislation repealing those silly abusive driver fees, if it's not already done. I did hear that VA is repealing the law for VA drivers, but implementing it for vehicles with DC/MD tags. JUST TEASING, Kevin!
Bludragon posted SSR-avan information on the Northeast page that begged to be shared with the VA SSRavaners.
A couple of you mentioned there are a couple of SSR Fanatics in the Roanoke area. Are they interested in joining the SSRavan? If so, what is a good meeting point in that area? How long will it take us to get from our meet up point at exit 199 to Roanoke?
Are there any Fanatics in Southwest VA or the Bristol/Tri-City area who are interested in joining us?

Woofman and I (Chick) will be spending Wednesday night in Roanoke, VA. We expect to be back on the road between 9 & 10 am. What does your schedule look like, we'd like to join up with everyone else on the last leg of our ride!
We're also spending Tuesday night at Wilkes-Barre, PA and then heading down to Roanoke for the night. Anyone want to join us along the way?
I'm getting mixed signals on the use of FRS equipment during the tour. I've heard that CH-7 is being used in Maggie Valley and CH-5 & 8 are being used by some of the other groups on the way to the Valley. Is there any way we can all use the same Calling Channel?
