As 32Revolver said it's a long run to Whitefish Point and if that's at the end of the day, the closest town for lodging is Paradise.
There's a nice Best Western in Paradise with a great lake view but we should book well ahead if we're planning on staying there.

Tentative for now, but add us to the list. We have never been to that part of the country.

Have you the version of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Byron Burns? It is a little different than Gordon Lightfoot's. At the end a bell tolls for each crew member and Burns gives their name and position they served on the ship.

No I don't have the version will have to get it I've seen a lot of touching films in my day but none that was as powering as the Edmund Fitzgerald a great sadness comes over me when I reflect back to seeing/ watching this flim.

Penciled you both in and hope you can make it

Yep, but other folks may have a longer trek than you (or I).

If we're going that far, we may as well include Tahquamenon Falls too, eh?

Kenny;

There's a gift shop (imagine that) next to the Museum and thay have a lot of pictures, etc. about the ship.

If I remember correctly, entrance into the Museum was $12 per person last fall and they also have tours of the living quarters for the lighthouse caretakers.

I think you'll find it interesting.

I would be glad to host the SSR group on the Lighthouse tour in Sept or Oct. Excluding Oct 1-10. The ones near me here in Leland are So. Manitou Island and Leelanau point in Northport. John Conder (aka johncon)

Trying very hard to get things going a series of events recently (loss of a loved one) have stalled me from getting this event going..one is also OT of hubby (he's partner in planning this one with me).

It will not be September due to our 2nd grandchild arriving.....I posted earlier that I am shooting for the 2nd weekend in October (if this helps for now).

Ok I pinned down hubby and made him work with me tonight (even though he only had one day at home)

Early planning stages but here is what we think will work best .....

October 8-9-10th (keep in mind we will be traveling Northern MI there is always a chance for snow ) ...I can't go any sooner due to the second grandchild coming. Fingers crossed we see no snow just gorgeous fall colors.
We will be taking 75 North to 23 (following the coastline) first Lighthouse Stop is # 23.....................

Out of Staters should arrive on Thursday (I will let you know where to get a room if you need it)

Friday Morning Early AM (time to be announced)

We will meet at a designated location (TBA)
These are the lighthouses we are planning on seeing Friday
On the MI Lighthouse Map (see attachment)
#23 Tawas Point Lighhouse
#22 Sturgeon Point Lighthouse & Museum
#20 New Presque Isle Lighthouse
#21 Old Presque Isle Lighthouse

#19 Forty Mile Point Lighthouse (this will be the point we will stop and get a hotel room for the night (TBA)

Saturday
#19 Forty Mile Point Lighthouse (if not completed on Friday)
# 18 Old Mackinac Point Lighhouse
#17 Point Iroquois Lighthouse & Museum
#16 Whitefish Point Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum , Bed & Breakfast

(If time allows we will be seeing Tahquamenon Falls)

#16 If I can get us in we will be staying at the Bed & Breakfast if not I will find an alternative

Sunday is travel home for those who need to (like me) for those that don't and the weather is good stay...its beautiful up that way

More info will follow after I lock in hotel information

With the tour starting on Friday, I won't be able to make it.

Although Pat retired on June 11th, this old fart still has to work as a teacher.

Have fun, Y'all!

Debbie, I'm sorry to hear this as I was really looking forward to it. Maybe someone else would like to help you out and lead the rest of us. You had a nice list of Fanatics from a few states.

Anyone that wants to jump in and run it can....all are welcomed or wait till I can get it going again...that's fine too ... I just finished scheduling my side jobs to the end of the year. I have three clients that want their books up an running in QB by the end of the year. I cannot free up anytime after Woodward and don't want to as I'd rather be setting my foot in the right direction Don't like to cancel a run I start as I always see them through from start to finish.....not in this case though. I hope you all understand
