Michigan Chapter -Ohio & Indiana Fanatics

Michigan Chapter Fanatics-Ohio & Indiana Fanatics ...............

As you know we have a few fanatics in our group that are not from Michigan but participate in just about every run we have

Marty & Dee (Ohio)
Ralph & Ruth (Indiana)

It's our turn to make a day/weekend trip there

They both say there is nothing to do in their states........so I'm calling on all Ohio and Indiana fanatics to help us out here.

There has to be something that we can do....since I'm not from the areas I am looking for feedback on places we may visit?

If we can come up with something to do this will be on our 2009 agenda

Please if at all possible attach links (websites) to places you may thing would be of interest.

There is the Air force museum at Wright-Patterson AF base in Dayton Ohio, it's free and there is so much to see it will take you all day.

this is in Indiana
Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum - A National Historic Landmark

If there is intrest in the Air Force museum I would most likely come to that one. I've been there and would like to do it again

I've got a few ideas (not close to me, but in the state) for a day run. I've got this winter to try to nail something down that would be within reach of SSrs in this area.

SpeedFest

The SpeedFest website will be updated shortly. Until then, kindly let this serve as a brief overview to Rebel's question.

The Taj Kreuzers SpeedFest is an annual fundraiser, now in it's eighth year, that has raised over $411,000 for Dayton based charities through a series of car related events.
Over two-hundred volunteers come together to participate in these venues that run through the calendar year.
There is a core group of around 25-30 people that spend their time and talents over that time frame making these events come together.
The schedule for 2009 includes the following:
Ladies Night Out - Friday March 20. An evening at the Taj for women only that includes nothing but lady stuff. I usually am in charge of the trash and stocking toilet paper at this event.
Wine Tasting - Saturday, April 25. The only Bud Light there is in my private fridge.
Car Show - Saturday, May 23. Some serious iron comes together for a variety of trophies at Lincoln Park, in noteworthy Kettering, Ohio.
Early that morning a Covered Bridge Tour is available for those wanting to enjoy a scenic drive that ends up at the Car Show.
After the Car Show, draft beer and massive quantities of tube steaks are consumed at the Taj for those with nothing else to do.
AutoX - Sunday, May 24. For those not of the feint of heart. Ordinarily 80-100 cars participate in this carbon based expenditure that only Al Gore hates to see happen.
Mini Grand Prix - Saturday, September 12. Over fifty go carts race through a professionally designed race course in Lincoln Park for trophies that are worth at best, a nickel-ninety-eight.
Party at the Taj - Saturday, October 10. Heavy appetizers, multiple bars, live music, live and silent auctions at the Taj. A lot of fun is had by all.

Needless to say, we have a great time helping those at a time when they need it most.
If any of you has an open date on your dance card for any of these events, kindly consider joining us.
You won't be disappointed.

Nothing to do?..

The problem I see is time to get here. 3 1/2 to 4 hrs to get here from Detroit.
Also the logistics and size of group narrows choices. Just east and a little south of me is an Amish tourist area with lots to do. Beautiful country to cruise in, food that is wonderful, awesome cheese places, and a chance to experience a time gone by. I can list some websites here that I have been to and reco. A lot of places don't have a web site yet.

Warthers Carvings

Lehman's - Products for Simple, Self-sufficient Living

Welcome to Chalet in the Vally, Amish, Swiss and Austrian Cooking, located in the Heart of Amish Country - Charm, Ohio

Guggisberg Cheese located in the Heart of Amish Country, across the street from Chalet in the Valley.

Amish Traditional Cooking at Farmstead Restaurant located in the heart of Ohio Amish country. We specialize in Amish foods, apple butter and homemade Amish pies.

This lodging looks nice with a helpful guide to the area..... Amish Country Attractions near Millersburg and Berlin, Holmes County Ohio

Even the pro football hall of fame is close for a stop before heading home which is just off I-77 in Canton with Quaker Steak and Lube close for a meal.
Quaker Steak & Lube

Lots to do in Cleveland too but a lot is water based.... or alcohol based...

James Dean Weekend

My son invited me down to James Dean Weekend, but we were heading to the Pumpkin Run that weekend. I believe this is on the last weekend of September every year and takes place in Gas City and Fairmount.

Fairmount is James Dean's hometown. This might be something we could do next year in place of the Pumpkin Run as I think it was decided we were going to do something different next year.

Ralph & Ruth (Quest) from that area probably know alot more about it as my son just moved there this fall. He said it was BIG show.

The James Dean Weekend is ususlly the last weekend in September and is held in Fairmount, IN. The very same weekend in Gas City, IN (very close by), is a competing car show that has actually grown larger than the James Dean Days. The one in Gas City is called "The Ducktail Run". One of the problem is that with the very large numbers attending both shows, motel space is at a premium in the area. We haven't gone for several years as we have a time share week that always overlaps the weekend of the shows.

Sounds great!

Please keep me posted on what is decided. Cordell & I will definitely join this one. I hope to join more shorter runs in 2009, instead of saving up and going to bigger ones.... I hate that I missed the Pumpkin Run, and I had to work on the Saturday you did the fall color run and went to Frankenmuth

This sounds like a lot of fun, and Ohio and Indiana are only a short trip away!!
