Michigan Fall Color Run- October 2008

Michigan Fall Color Trip

When: October 11th Saturday
Where: 1st stop - R&A Engineering 10:00 A.M.

For some of you this can be a "One Tank Day Trip" and others an overnighter if needed. Karl will look into hotels if so.

Special thank you to Karl (HoRodChevy) for setting up this MI Fall Color Run. Karl will need a head count for lunch so please let me know ASAP if you are planning on joining us........

Here is the itinerary Karl has sent me. Sounds like a wonderful time!!!

Scheduled the SSR Tour of R&A Engineering for 10:00 AM on Saturday
October 11, 2008. The proposed program is:

1) Travel to Manchester, Michigan area by scenic back roads (~2 hours
from metro Detroit). I will prepare a suggested route map or
participants can come out I-94 if in a hurry.

2) Meet at R&A Engineering at 10:00 AM for an informal tour of their
facility. (expect to spend about 1.5 hours) A classic vehicle restoration facility in the Manchester area. The facility was featured in "AutoWeek" magazine this past week
Here is the link to their website...
New Car News - AutoWeek 44696405

3) Convoy by scenic Irish Hills back roads to Jerry's Pub (about 10
miles) for lunch. This is a nice waterfront restaurant on Wamplers
Lake. We can even dine outside if weather permits.

4) Travel by back roads and M-50 to downtown Tecumseh (about 20 miles).
The two attractions are the Pentamere Winery and J-Bar Hobbies, which
has an exceptional collection of die cast model cars. (I have gotten
several of my SSR models there in 1/18, 1/24, and 1/43 scale).

If there are any participants looking to stay overnight, there are a
couple of interesting and unique options in the area I can suggest.

Please ask the Fanatics to RSVP (need an approximate count for lunch
reservations), then I will e-mail participants detailed trip maps.
Thanks,
Karl

Here is route information, links for more information about stops on our route, and additional things to do after the tour is over Saturday afternoon.

R&A Engineering maintains a low profile and is not open to the public because of the nature of their business and clients. As Jack noted; they are not even listed in the local phone book. Their address is:

Fanatics with questions or if they get lost on Saturday are welcome to call me at 734-657-3690 (cell phone)

I have sent PDF files of maps and other information to Deb for posting to the Fanatics site.

Michigan Fall Color Run Hotel

There is a historic hotel along the US-12 Heritage Route in Clinton, MI that would provide interesting overnight accommodations on this run. While we have not stayed overnight (we live only 7 miles away), their Sunday Brunch is excellent.

I will talk to the owner to confirm room availability, rates, etc. and post an update.

Still going to try and make this one.

The Clinton inn is it at the end of event trip (in the area) or do we need to backtrack to find it?

I believe the event ends in downtown Tecumseh - the Clinton Inn is about four miles north of there, on U.S. 12.

Michigan Fall Color Run - October 2008 Route

The Clinton Inn is along the US-12 Heritage Trail which we will take from the lunch stop to Tecumseh for the wine tasting (and model car) stop.

In late September, route instructions and maps will be posted for the Color Run. I will have suggestions for interesting routes to get here. This area is popular among car manufacturers for short test trips.

Just found out today that Tecumseh is having its annual AppleUmpkin festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th. That means there will be no parking spots available on the main drag... but it also means food vendors and other events.
