Judy & I sent our pre-registration in today and made motel reservations this morning. We should arrive before 4:00 pm as I have the day off and can come anytime. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Seems like we've missed everything this spring and summer.

We're a little late getting pre-registered as my mother was put in the hospital on 8/19, she passed away 8/26 and the funeral was yesterday. She was 91, but it is still hard. Keep my father and our family in your prayers.

Jack & Judy (OLDYELR)

PS. Debbie PM us your cell phone and I'll do likewise.

I will notify both of you as soon as I can. I have the day off.......Steve's schedule depends on what has to be out of the shop before we leave.

I would like to leave before 12:00 noon on Friday.....it's a 2 1/2 hr drive from my home. We can meet at a rest area on I75........sound good?

Hi Debbie and Judy, we just looked at the map and it looks like all of us could be using different routes. We were planning to go up 127. What do you think of meeting at the casino parking lot at Mt. Pleasant? Just a thought.

I got that impression too....we usually take 175N to 227 Hougton Lake exit 55 across.

There is a restaurant at the Birch Run Exit 133-134 called Tony's Famous I75 Resturaunt.....this restaurant is notorious for serving HUGE portions.

Anyway Dee you know hubby well........he will most likely like the idea of meeting at the casino I'll check with him after work.

Mt. Pleasant parking lot will work...........same driving distance no matter which way we go. Time..........not known yet. Please feel free to set a time and Steve and I will do our best to meet up with you guys. I don't want to have you waiting in the case Steve cannot get out of work early. For us it will be a last minute time factor depending on his work load.

Fall Color Update as of 9/4/07

Michigan Fall Color Update

As Featured in the Fall Color Update - Week of 9/4/2007
Fall Color Off to a Good Start in Western Upper Peninsula

Michigan's annual fall color show is off to a good start across the far western and northern Upper Peninsula, but the peak is not expected for at least two weeks, reports AAA Michigan.

AAA's weekly survey of state parks and regional visitor's bureaus shows minimal color in most areas of the U.P.; however, in the Ontonagon area, as well as Crystal Falls and Ishpeming, colors are developing at a slightly faster pace. Naturalists at Porcupine Mountain State Park report that the reds and yellows of the maples and birches are between 5 and 10 percent developed, well ahead of last year at this time.

In the Copper Harbor area color development is between 5 and 10 percent. Recent dry conditions may cause some leaves to fall early. Across the rest of the U.P. and Northern Lower Peninsula, color is just beginning to appear.

Debbie, still haven't heard from Judy and Marve. Anytime is ok with us because we are not planning to go to work that day. We will let you set the time and if something comes up at the last minute on either end we can get in touch by phone. Dee

Took a ride to Houghton Lake yesterday, just to pass time & scope it out. Carl & I couldn't believe how it has grown. Even has a Super Walmart. It also has one of the biggest craft places in the state. It is called Arnie's and is right on the strip. One whole block long. The strip is full of barricades. Working on the road.

How long has it been since you were in the area? I shop at Arnie's frequently when visiting.

Let's hope the barricades are removed before the Pumpkin Run!

Houghton Lake even has a Apple bee's Restaurant and Home Depot now

I spend a good part of my summer and a little of winter up here as my mom and sister both reside here.

8 SSR's

We have 8 SSR's with the possibility of 9 if straight-up (Ron) shows up for the day on Saturday

All that is left now is to check the weather forecast on Thursday

Let's get ready for a Great Lakes Great Times Cruise and wake up the town of Houghton Lake

A few reminders:

Dress up in 50-60's costumes for Saturday. Our rooms are just across the way so we can head back to change quickly if needed.

I do not know what to expect as I have never participated in this Pumpkin Run. From the folks I have talked with it sounds like a good time.

Bring your usual items if we can sneak away............. I have a few back roads I would like to explore for fall decor

Rooms available

I have no idea what the availablity of rooms is at the Quality or Super 8, but there are still a couple of rooms available at Korbinski's (989) 366-5306.
This is just a little reminder that it is still not too late to come join the fun.
