SSR mechanic in the Chicago area

Hi,

We come up to the Chicago suburbs for several months during the summer. Just got back from the Maggie Valley rally and had some issues with the top.

There is a new Chevrolet dealership in Crystal Lake, IL, Crystal Lake Chevrolet. We took the SSR in for service and I inquired about mechanics specifically trained to work on the SSR. In Florida there are a few and the local chapter can tell you where to find them.

In any event, I learned they have a top mechanic who is one step from being a Certified GM Master Mechanic (or whatever they call it) which means he would be in the top 1% in the country. I inquired further and they pulled up the information on the computer and it showed he has been through the SSR classes.

They fixed my top issue in an afternoon and were very professional about it. As part of the process photos were taken step by step and will be posted on the forum when the write up is completed.

Thought I would pass along the information because I was totally satisfied and came away realizing that I was lucky to find a mechanic that understood the SSR's.

regards,
FloRidah

For what it is worth, I put very little faith in hte Master Mechanic designation without back up documentation since the one who worked on my top problem back in 2010 had to remove the bed cover and took out 8 bolts and left the hiinges in place (though I had told him it was two guys, two bolts, ten minutes max) and then told me it took two hours to realign the cover when he put it back on. I know they are not all that way but...

By the way that was all covered by GMPP and that dealer is now out of business.
