On another note - Keith, I remeber we had a good time at the steakhouse last year (too bad it was prom night...). Any plans for that this year? Is it prom night again?
Yep - Cattlemans will be a go for Saturday night. We MAY luck out and with the Car Show being a week later to avoid the PROMers. (I dunno - they were kinda fun (Loud, yes - but fun) - heck they even gave me an ovation after I spoke!)
Anybody want to help with KP duties on Friday night for the BBQ? I'll make a list for that too. So far the menu is: Tri-Tip (Pork and Beef) / MY slant on The famous Santa Maria Poquito Beans / salad and bread.

Gerry came up with an idea that sounds pretty good to me. Is there a sandwich shop in Kingsburg where we could pick up some sandwiches and we could buy some chips at the grocery store and have a picnic up in the park somewhere?
That way we could all mingle and visit. That spot we pulled into last year before we stopped for lunch would make a nice stop. There were even restrooms.
What do you think?

Loyd,
That sounds like a good idea to us.

Pencil us in
This looks like a "do-able" trip for us. Please pencil in Mike & Debbie on your head count. Are there still rooms available at the Swedish Inn?
Looks like we would be coming across 10 to the 210 and then up. We'd like to hook up with a caravan going the same way. I'm open for suggestions on time to be at a meeting point.

Glad to hear you might make it Mike. There should be room available, I just got my reservations 2 days ago. Better call soon tho. You can always cancel if it falls thru. As soon as we get some meeting times and places set, we'll post it.
Hope to see you and Debbie there.

I was going to make sure the lodge was aware of our trip - I've put the NPS on notice too!
Picnic sounds great - AND - folks that want a sit down meal can do that too at the lodge - not sure of a sandwich shop open at 8:30 - but Albertsons may be able to make up something.
With an earlier start, there should be a bit more 'explore' time.
I'm fairly confident that there won't be near as much snow - BUT, we will know more then...
The hotel still has lots of rooms...

Sandwich's for Picnic
Don't know if Kingsburg has a Subway Sandwich Shop, but they accomadate us in Laughlin. We go in the day before order the amount we need pay for them and mgr. comes in early makes them up dry to be picked up early morning. We pick up sandwich's and all the condiments so people can put on what they like and sandwich's are'nt soggy when it's time to eat.
Just a thought

Would like to meet The General myself . . . .
Well pencil me in too, Keith ! !
Just made reservations at the Kingsburg Swedish Inn for the 21st and the 22nd. Had a great time at the Laughlin Run and I'm sure this will be just as big a kick. Even became a Supporting Member because of it. Love mountain driving and scenery so will be looking forward to this run also. Remember very vaguely when just a toddler (back during the Ice Age ) traveling through the Sequoias with my Mother and Father in a 1935 Chevrolet so many many years ago.
Don't know who will be the co-pilot yet(if at all), but count on me to be there.

Mike,
That's exactly the route I took when returning from visiting my son in Phoenix. You'll make great time I believe (took me exactly 6 hours from Deer Valley Road to Valencia - 412 miles).
Incidentally, I googleearthed the mileage from Valencia to Kingsburg using the path measuring device and I came up with 160 miles.
From the 210, merge onto the I-5 North up and over the "Grapevine", split away to the 99 just South of Bakersfield and on to Kingsburg.
A good place to meet for everyone coming from south of LA and our Phoenix buds
would be around the Magic Mountain area in Valencia. Lots of restaurants with big parking lots right next to the I-5 (a Bazillion Starbucks - all with wifi access ). Not trying to take over anyone's planning. Just a suggestion for you guys.

Hey Gary, I was going to suggest that you check out and pick a spot to meet in Valencia. I'm going to pick a spot probably where the 210 and the 605 meet for the guys from SoCal to gather. Then we can make a stop in Valencia and another in Bakersfield to pick up Artsmart and whoever comes over the hill with her. Find a good place and PM me the address.

Reservations Confirmed
I just captured a room at the Swedish Inn for the 21st and 22nd. There is now one left in the original block of rooms according to Shelly at the desk.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Please let me know where the most eastern hook-up will be for any AZ cars coming over on 10. I will have to stop for fuel before the 10 to 210 transition and will definitely be ready for a short break.
Mike

Valencia Caravan Staging area . . . . . .
Lloyd, don't know whether you got my PM (apparently there is no way to check on "sent" private messages).
I'll repeat it here, however:
A good Caravan Stop in Valencia would be to get off the I-5 at Valencia Blvd, at the off ramp light, turn left crossing the freeway - turn right at the first traffic light you can turn right at which is The Old Road (You'll see the Starbucks and Panda Express logos on the building right on the corner as you turn) - go down to nearest driveway and you're there.
For those of you with GoogleEarth, just enter Valencia & Old Rock Road, Valencia, California and get a great view of the entire area (I know GoggleEarth calls it Old Rock Road and Valencia calls is The Old Road - same thing).
The large building with the white roof is an Albertson's so anybody that needs to purchase chips, cokes, etc. can easily buy these there. EDIT: I just checked Albertson's Market out and they have a great Deli Section (sandwiches, salads - all pre-packaged to go). There is a Starbucks in the corner bldg for those that have to take a potty break, check e-mail back home or get some great coffee (the manager is a friend of mine )
I have no idea what time everybody wants to meet there, so will let the organizers take it from here (at this point we are 160 miles from Kingsburg).
Any questions, just click ! !

Reason: Added Albertson's info . . .

Keith, Gerry and I will be glad to help in any way you want us to. What time do we need to be at the park. Is this the same park we met at last year?

We will most likely meet at the park under the water tower (coffee pot) - as it's a GREAT visual aid - and then we could drive on out to the Historical Park. (We could have somebody driving back and forth to 'shuttle' the new arrivals over.)
The downtown park will be all street parking - at the Historical park - we will be able to line the SSR's up for some interesting photo ops...
Also, there will be some construction (remodel) at the fire dept (they are operating out of a new satellite station) - so we may end up with LOTS of room for SSR's on Saturday!!!
I will stop at City Hall after work today to:
1) add a dozen more 'blocked off' rooms at the Swedish Inn
2) Confirm the Historical Park option...

OK - now for the Swedish Inn news: They have 2 more rooms from the ones I blocked. I also noticed on their reservation paper that there is a dozen or so rooms blocked off for the "BANKS" wedding party - so they are ALMOST FULL!
Call today if you want a room there under the SSR-Club block - none of you are coming to the Banks wedding are you?
Next closest will be in Selma - 5 miles north. A Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express...
I will continue to check with the Swedish Inn to see if the wedding party makes any changes...
I went back over the official sign up sheet and we only had 49 SSR's, which tied with Irwindale. We had 52 signed up, but Big Jim didn't have his SSR with him, and Jerry's in-laws, Keith and Michelle, didn't bring their SSR either. So if Kingsburg can get to 50, it will have the new record.

52 minus 2 equals 50 ?

Now you're really confusing me, Lloyd.
52 SSRs Signed Up
Big Jim (thanks for the pics, guy) brought a rental - now we have 51 SSRs
Keith & Michelle left their SSR at home - leaves 50 SSRs.

Why the 49 ? ? ?
52 was a typo. I'll try to explain it better:
53 signed up. However, there were 2 that didn't show up. That makes 51. Big Jim and Keith & Michelle didn't bring their SSRs, so that makes 49 SSRs.
