A request from my co-pliot
My co-pliot has a request when we get into Bakersfield to meet the crossing Desert Rats... She would like to invade another Sonic Drive-in like we did in Laughlin Checked their web site shows seven locations in Bakersfield don't know which one is close to the connection but can figure that out later. What do you guys think should be around lunch time then?????

Dynamite idea, crazy ! !
Then maybe I can get some decent pics of this event. The Sonic should provide a perfect potty, malt and burger stop, also.

Here's the location. We'll establish a time later.
1227 Olive Drive
Bakersfield, CA 93306
It's north of where the 58 joins the 99, at the north end of Bakersfield.

You'all could meet up at Buck Owens Crystal Palace... (Just a suggestion ) It right off the 99...
Directions to the Crystal Palace
Coming from Southern California: Take I-5 north to the Highway 99 separation continuing north into Bakersfield. Exit at Buck Owens Boulevard which will put you directly in front of the Crystal Palace.
Coming from the Central Coast (Hwy 58): Take Hwy 58 east. After crossing under the Hwy 99 overpass, turn left on Buck Owens Boulevard. Continue for about 1/4 mile to the Crystal Palace on your right.
Coming from the East (Hwy 58): Take Hwy 58 west to Hwy 99. Go north on Hwy 99 to the Buck Owens Boulevard exit, straight to the Crystal Palace.

Desert Rats!!! let me know where they are coming from so I won't run into them :glo
The shift in schedule for the BBQ to 4:00pm will surely change some of the caravan join-up times.... This is not a complaint, but instead a chance to plan an overnight point for those of us coming from AZ. Our intention is to join the group caravan as we come across 10. We will either leave Phoenix at 0-dark-30 or spend the night in Blythe (yuck).
Open to suggestions.
Mike

Mike,
How about overnighting in the Palm Springs/Cabazon area . . . on my return trip from Phoenix to So Cal, I went through there around 4 to 4 1/2 hours into my drive (get there early, terrific casinos in Cabazon ). That way you could join-up with Lloyd's group in the morning which could eventually join up with another group gathering in Valencia. Then on to Kingsburg ! !

Oh, the humanity ! !
Gary...don't forget about us 'Desert Rats' joining you guys in BAKERSFIELD!
for the suggestion. Cabazon or Palm Springs would be OK, I guess.
I'll wait to see what the departure times are from various meeting places. I guess I'm a little premature here to be worrying about where I'm gonna sleep.
Later,
Mike

What I'm planning is to have food ready when you all get to town - Unless I get a caterer (I still might ) I cant see a big sit down - all at one time thing on Friday (we'll save that for Cattlemans on Saturday) - just kind of a buffet that you can dig into.
So - some food should be ready about 2 - and we'll do a cruise the couple blocks to downtown at or after 6:30p... Eatin' is any time in between!
(I'll get the exact time we head downtown on the 21st at the next car show meeting.)

We pick up sandwich's and all the condiments so people can put on what they like and sandwich's are'nt soggy when it's time to eat.
Just a thought
I spoke to the owner of Dianes Village Bakery and Cafe - she is more than willing to have box lunches ready for us to pick up on SUNDAY morning. I'll 'hammer' out a deal with her and see what kind of $ we're talking about. Regular Sandwich is about $5 - so it shouldn't be too bad.
Carwash in town???? Last year by the time I got into Kingsburg my black SSR was covered with beautiful yellow butterfly wings and ****. The carwash was closed by then but some of the employees offered to wash my SSR at their home. SAVED THE DAY!!! I would say MOST of the THIRTY SSR's will need a wash job... Could someone possibly make a deal with the carwash or the men running it????

I tried to get the Hand Car Wash to stay open last year - I'll try again, but was thinking of someone being at the Historical Park - maybe their workers could come over and make some side money if the business wont stay open.
I also have a line on a mobile detailer - I was thinking I could book him to do my SSR to see if he's any good...

Just Added...
We are up to 33 SSR's...
I submitted info to the Frersno Bee paper and got listed in the Car Club Directory - this might get a few local SSR owners that don't use the internet involved. Does anybody know the most recent name (#33) I just added?
#34 Just emailed me and bringing his 2004 Asphalt Black SSR to Kingsburg. Forwarded email to Keith and that other guy with the "Raiders of the Lost ...." something hat!! We can still break the fifty SSR's record this year....!

We will be doing a raffle at the Kingsburg Run. We will probably do the raffle on Sat. night at the Cattlemans. Gerry and I will have a table set up at the park on Friday, and at the car show on Saturday, to sell tickets. All donations of raffle prizes will be greatly appreciated. If you have a connection with a dealership or accessory store, see if they are willing to donate something. After expenses are deducted from the sale of raffle tickets, the remaining money will be placed in envelopes and raffled off at the end.
Our raffle in Laughlin was a big success. Lets make it even bigger this time.
