Nov 29th

Well 2 weeks to go and we will be in LA for our cruise to the Baja. So we thought since we will have a day to do nothing, we thought .... how about getting together with the SoCal Fanatics !!! We not sure where we are going to be staying Saturday Night, but Sunday we'll stay somewhere around the Long Beach area, or not too far off. So if some plans can be whipped up, Tracie and I would LOVE to meet up with you guys again !!! Since we have no idea where too much is, we are leaving the meeting place up to you guys, just keep us posted.
We are driving down, we're leaving Calgary Friday afternoon, so that should put us in the LA area late Saturday afternoon, early evening, so if a Sunday lunch meeting would be best, we're cool with that !!! oh by the way, we have to be at the dock Monday 1pm, so we have lot's of time!!

Just keep us posted, thanks everyone, I for 1 am VERY excited about this trip, hell anytime I get to drive somewhere warm and meet new people, I'm excited !!!

See everyone in 2 weeks !!!

PS: please scroll down to post #12 to see the plans for this meeting, it's gonna be a blast !!

Rob

Boy, Looks like you are driving straight through, You will definitely need that cruise to recover. Let's see what our local party planners put together. I am sure it will be fun. I hope you two are awake for it.

I am thinking I might be able to throw together a cruise around the hills west of Pasadena and then we could end up at someplace for supper. I do not think a BBQ would be a good plan this time of year. The weather is a bit unpredictable. Comments welcome.

PS Rob says they don't have to be at the ship until noonish on Monday

If you're cruising out of Long Beach and you're leaving on a Monday and returning Friday, your cruising on the Carnival Paradise. You'll love this port by the way. The best of all of them I've cruised out of. The ship is a beaut also, the last build of the Fantasy Class.
My suggestion would be a lunch someplace in Shoreline Village (just across from the cruise port, can even see the Queen Mary from there). We've done this before (remember Tequila Jacks ) with maybe a short run along PCH thrown in. My guess is our Canadian visitors would have done enough driving for awhile and would most likely like to just relax and get to know some more of the So Cal Nuts.

I have been thinking about this all night . You may be right. Are you going to be joining us?

Have not seen you on here lately, hope all is well.

Looks like Tequilla Jacks in Shoreline Village. They claim to not be busy in the early part of the day so I would say if we arrive at 1130 we should be good. There is a fee for parking.

Tequila Jack's - Long Beach, CA

Yellow Bear
Bondo Princess & lloger
Weary Eagle?
RunRodRun & Ellen? if no rain

it will be a bit of driving for sure, but I love to drive(used to be a long haul truck driver) I'm always up for a drive, but getting to know more SoCal Nuts is just as inviting !!! A lunch around the port is good too, whatever the consensus is ok with us !!

We're there!

Lloyd and Gerry are in for lunch on Nov. 29th. I like the Shoreline Village idea, with lunch at Tequuila Jacks. Depending on weather/traffic we can decide if we want to cruise PCH afterwards.
It will be good to see Tracie and Rob again.........Rob makes everyone laugh with his funny stories.
Yes, we are going on the same cruise with Sandy and Wayne, departing on Dec. 7th and returning in time for the Disneyland/ holiday weekend with the Fanatics.

I think the Tequilia Jacks lunch seems the most practical and if we feel up to it a cruise either North or South on PCH and surrounding streets could be available. I'll save the hills around Pasadena for better topless weather.

Just lunch I think. Too much on the calendar already at that time of year to go for a long cruise. A topless day cruise, maybe.

I like the Shoreline Village idea too.
I might be able to join in but it all depends on the family Thanksgiving weekend plans.

We were looking online at hotels in Long Beach .... wow tons and tons of them, so I guess we'll have our choice. All we'll need is the address ( for the GPS) and we'll meet you wherever. This looks like it will be a good day for sure !!

Rob,
Pulled this thread from CruiseCritic.com which is most likely the premiere cruise website. I've been a member for years and on it all the time (glrounds). They have an entire section just for selecting hotels in the different departure ports. I pulled this one thread I found, mentioning the AVIA (wow, that almost has a familiar ring ) as a good place to stay. Some of the hotels in Long Beach let you park FREE for your cruise (parking in the Carnival garage is very nice, but $15 per day).

Avia Hotel
285 Bay Street
Long Beach, CA 90802

(866) 644-2842

Avia hotel? - Cruise Critic Message Boards

There are also threads in this forum on the QUEEN MARY, that great ole gal that hauled American and Canadian soldiers by the 1000s during the War. You'll either love the accomodations or hate them. Little is changed in this ship which is berthed right next to the pier the PARADISE will use.I'm not sure if they still do it, but the Queen used to give special pricing to Carnival cruisers. I've gone to the Queen several times. Great date stop. Fascinating bar, great (expensive) dining and a tour of the ship (you can find out about all those "ghosts" everyone talks about)

The Hyatt Regency also gets a lot of cruisers and I think they allow FREE parking also. Beautiful port area in Long Beach.

I pulled this one thread I found, mentioning the AVIA (wow, that almost has a familiar ring ) as a good place to stay. Some of the hotels in Long Beach let you park FREE for your cruise (parking in the Carnival garage is very nice, but $15 per day).

Awesome info !!! actually we were looking at stay 1 night @ the Queen, but I think we'll check out your website first and go from there !!!
Thanks for the info !!! I like the free parking thing !!
