SSRs coming to the Peach City:41 as of June 19, 2007
The Lake Chelan Cruise last weekend was outstanding. There was a great deal of interest in coming to Penticton for the Peach City Beach Cruise June 22 - 24, 2007.
I have reserved an area for SSRFanatics, and was able to reserve a block of rooms. Tying a northwest cruise to the Beach Cruise makes the logistics of staging an event much simpler. Food and entertainment are very well managed. We just have to enjoy ourselves.
I will post additional information as it becomes available.
New posts will be in red.
Just in case someone else is interested in coming but having difficulty getting on our site to post, please feel free to contact me directly.

Event
The Peach City Beach Cruise is in its seventh year, with over 400 cars participating. Many participants come back every year. The Classical Glass Corvette club from Washington has been here for several years. One Victoria participant freights several vehicles from Vancouver Island every year. His personal entries last year included a Ford GT, Prowler, Viper, new Mustang and a Chrysler 300. The Cruise has seen large groups travel great distances. One group of cars two years ago (9 cars, if I remember correctly) came from Salt Lake City.
The setting is spectacular. The car show is staged from the Lakeside Resort Hotel (The long pier at the center of the photo) all the way to the SS Sicamous, at the far right, just before the river channel.
The show is a non-profit event. I spoke to one of the key organizers Sunday. He agreed to reserve part of the park area to the right of the hotel on the photo below. We'll be just off the beach, on grass, directly across from the outdoor entertainment area and concessions. I will need to stay in touch with him as the group grows, to make sure we have adequate space for all.
Entry fee is $50 Canadian ($45 US) per vehicle. That will provide two for one breakfast coupons for Saturday and Sunday, two steak dinners in a large tent across the street from the hotel on Saturday night, free entertainment all weekend, a poker run on Friday afternoon, the Parade of Iron through the city Friday night, an evening show and shine Friday night, the car show Saturday and a Cruise on Saturday afternoon. The award ceremony is at 11:00 AM Sunday.
I would recommend pre-registration. Makes the process much smoother when you arrive. You should enter the milleneum category, although the custom category may be a good fit for some of the wilder SSRs.
They aren't set up for VISA or MC - their cost would be quite high, and your VISA or MC provider will nick you for the foreign transaction. They will accept checks for pre-registration, or cash at the site. As per supersleuth Sue, US postage to Canada is 64 cents.
The outdoor stage is across the street from the park. Live entertainment will go from Friday afternoon to late Saturday night.
The Poker Run Friday afternoon is to 9 wineries in the Naramata area. First prize is a case of wine, second is 1/2 case. Reports from participants in the poker run are very positive.
It's an all-day event - you can rush through, or stop anywhere along the way and enjoy some wine tasting or scenery. Cards must be turned it at the SS Sicamous registration center by 5:00 PM
The Beach Cruise has added a new attraction. The Victoria Fire Engine Society is sponsoring an antique Fire Engine rally - they expect 12 - 15 units will be coming from various cities in the northwest, including Portland and Calgary. One of the units coming is a 1898 horse drawn pumper.

Hotels
The Lakeshore Resort Hotel is a luxury hotel on the Beach. It has a pub, the Magnums restaurant indoors, a patio eating area, and the Hooded Merganser Restaurant built over the water. It also has a Casino.
If you check the photo of the hotel on the link below, the park area is just over top of the Hooded Merganser restaurant on the right, past the giant tree.

Accomodations for Thursday night, if required.
I thought it would be nice to start with a quiet evening after a long drive, so I'll recommend the Summerland Motel. Phone number 250-494-4444. Rooms are available as of April 12th.
It is a small motel on the highway to Summerland, less than 10 minutes out of Penticton. All rooms face away from the road, and there is a really nice common area with a pool. Parking is good. Rate is $99 Canadian (approx $88 US).
Summerland has a great restaurant - Zia's Stonehouse. Good food, reasonable prices.
Zia's is booked for Thursday at 7:15 PM - we can adjust as required, but wanted to make sure we were in.
Booked for 40 - also to be adjusted.
Link to Zia's thread - please confirm you are planning to be there.

Wineries
There are 54 wineries in the south Okanagan, with many award winning wines in competitions throughout the world. The Okanagan Fall Wine Festival running September 20 - October 8 is drawing over 160000 visitors to the Okanagan Valley.

The City
http://www.penticton.org Click the tourism link for more information on wineries, restaurants and accomodations.
Penticton is a beautiful city, built between two lakes, with huge expanses of sandy public beach at both ends. It is home to the Canadian Ironman, which attracts 1800 participants from around the world. It is a qualifier for the Hawaian Ironman. Accomodations are plentiful, concentrated close to the beaches. High quality restaurants are plentiful.
SHOPPING
Penticton has several craft and specialty stores within walking distance from the beach. More neat stores are located in Okanagan Falls and Summerland. Iris is a professional shopper, and knows all the good spots. Her recommendations will be provided prior to the event. Oh-Oh - Tom just warned me that I opened the door for Iris to do more in-depth research. Like the guy in the commercial said just before the Charger went over the cliff - "That can't be good.""
Weather
Typically weather at that time of year will be in the 75 - 90 degree range. I can only remember one partially rainy day in the 6 years at the event.
***Disclaimer - I cannot accept personal responsibility for the weather.****
Travel
The Beach Cruise is aproximately 3 hours north of Lake Chelan, about 1 hour north of the US Canada border. Highway 97 is a very scenic two lane highway along the shoreline of Osoyoos, Vasseau, Skaha and Okanagan Lake
Penticton is approximately 4 hours inland from Vancouver on the Coquihalla highway. The Coquihalla is a four lane divided highway in high alpine. Beautiful scenery. Hope is the last fuel stop until Merrit, two hours away.
Customs
Entering Canada is fairly straightforward. Customs tend to frown on drugs and guns. Passports are best, but photo ID and a birth certificate are acceptable. The border crossing at Osoyoos/Oroville is fairly quiet. If you are coming from Seattle on I5, I would recommend turning off at Bellingham and crossing at either Sumas or Lynden. Blaine and the truck crossing are very busy.
