Concours is August 21, 2011 and tickets do run $150 and up. However, there are a lot of other events taking place that weekend. We had a blast at the vintage car races the Saturday before. This is when Jim had his Lotus and someone arranged for a special "corral" for the car club. You don't have to go to the Concours to have a great weekend BUT even I,who really knows nothing about cars, was in awe!!!! (I am learning something though -
I spotted something that resembled a Bugatti that I saw on one our Fanatic events and called Jim with the description. -- Sure enough it was a black/red Bugatti Veyron!!!! --- so SWEEEEEET!)

You're right about the hotels. I tried to get some price information but it is still too soon. Jim and I stayed in Salinas, which was about a 30 minute drive and the hotel was under $200/night. Obviously the sooner you book the better.
We just had so much fun we wondered if there were other Fanatics that might be interested as well.
I'm not the best at organizing but Jim an I often speak about how much fun we had and what a great event it could be with the Fanatics.

I've been quite a few times, and got engaged there, too. The Concours d'Elegance is without a doubt the top classic car event of the year. Plus there are auctions, other shows, the drivers parade, races at Laguna Seca, parties, etc. for a truly amazing weekend. Like I said, worth every cent.
I'm checking VRBO's, but it is a little early, and most are not available yet.

Well I'm looking into it because it is something that Jim would like to do BUT more important - I can drive MY SSR up the coast!!! Last time it was in his Lotus Elise and NO ONE drove it but him. Don't get me wrong - it was really fun but I always loved my SSR more.
He just might have to be the passenger for this trip

I almost added an Elise to my fleet. Just drove the 1 from Ventura to San Francisco, on a Monday in August, and it was the emptiest 1 I have ever driven (#24), but it was foggy and still amazing. We are lucky...

Almost? I take that it is not in your garage tonight. You're missing out on a lot of fun.
I have to admit that I am automotive challenged. I know nothing about how they run. However, I have been very fortunate to be around some men that liked cars (my dad was into the Lincoln's) And then there is Jim - who would have guessed that the blonde he first met that HATED the top down on his MG Midget would be the same that drives her SSR with the top down unless it is pouring rain!!!!

Well, I still have fun. The Elise did remind me of my old Mini Cooper 1275S, modified for slalom racing, and I rebuilt it often. I miss that car too much... lol. BTW, I'm building two projects, a '50 Nash (custom), and a '71 Mercedes 250S (stock). If I want fun, I ride a mean Vespa!
My wife actually likes the top down in the SSR fairly often, when she didn't in my larger convertible. I owned a bright red '64 Monza convertible when we met. She doesn't mine the top off a Porsche Targa either, but that is a different animal. She does not like driving my 6-speed, as she prefers using two hands while driving, and is always on the "hands-free" phone (she's a SPED principal), but if I am in the car, she'll drive. The SSR will be the ride to P.B.
I once drove a pink '67 Mustang with red flames to the Concours, but that is another story...
I've always wanted to go to that... Lets see... Mid August Woodward.... The next week Pebble Beach.. then a couple weeks later the International rally at Flagstaff.... Ummmm maybe 2012 for me

Yeah, I know - it was just a thought that runs through our heads every year but never soon enough to get anyone together.

Most likely Ventana is not first come/first serve. If they are like other high-end retreats, they contact their regular "event" patrons first, prior to public booking. I imagine Ventana is "not available" to us non-regulars.
Not like the late '70's, as I was dating a young woman whose mother had a "beach cabin" on 17-Mile Drive. That was without a doubt the best place I've ever stayed during the Concours.

Wouldn't worry about it as one of the things about planing a event is you can't make everybody happy with dates, time, cost, etc... Just plan it and they'll come.
It is something Bob and I have wanted to do also. I guess we need to get some research on pricing. The price to get in to the event is a known factor, but it is the lodging that is questionable. I love the area, our daughter lived in Pacific Grove while she went to school in Monterey. It is a really neat town and has lots of B & B's.
