Just paid $4.63 at ARCO, of all places ! !

Shell was $4.86
Chevron was $4.87

If we don't do something about this, and fast, this is going to take us down, folks. I must admit I don't even have a "short term" suggestion. I'm also afraid the hysteria leading to a "short term" solution will punish the wrong people or entities.

The solution is simple. The dollar is at an all time low. Raise the interwst rate to 10 % & it will stop all the speculators & GAS WILL COME DOWN TO A MORE TOLERABLE PRICE.

A raised interest rate will cause more people to default on ARM mortgages. Credit card rates would in jump too...etc., etc.,.....so it's probably not that simple

Also this is a world wide problem and not just in the US.

Didn't a president at one time release fuel from the Federal Reserves at one time to calm things in the short term? I don't remember who it was or what the outcome was, but if it worked this may calm things a little without punishing anyone? (I assume this fuel was paid for with our tax $$ anyway...).

BTW, we're not as bad as some of you, it was about $4.25 for Premium this morning. But I'm really tired of paying $100 a week to get to work, I don't like my job $100 worth.

I would agree, but it would drop the price very little I'm afraid. And even then for a very limited time. Although we've temporarily STOPPED putting oil into it, it is deemed necessary to operate our country for a short time if there is a World stoppage of shipping oil (Israel attacking Iran, USA attacking Iran, etc.)

The following from Wikipedia about the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is an emergency petroleum store maintained by the United States Department of Energy. The US SPR is the largest emergency supply in the world with the current capacity to hold up to 727 million barrels (115,600,000 m³) of crude oil. The second largest emergency supply of petroleum is Japan's with a 2003 reported capacity of 579 million barrels (92,100,000 m³).

The current inventory is displayed on the SPR's website. As of June 11, 2008, the current inventory was 704.9 million barrels (112,070,000 m³). At current market prices ($138 a barrel) the SPR holds over $97 billion worth of petroleum.

On May 13, 2008, the United States Senate and House of Representatives voted nearly unanimously to temporarily suspend the 70,000 barrel per day shipment of petroleum to the nation's emergency reserve[1]. A temporary halt to SPR stockpiling is hoped to increase oil supplies and thereby reduce the cost of oil, although analysts are divided on whether it will have a meaningful effect to consumers[2]. Shipments to the Strategic Oil Reserve would resume at the end of 2008. On May 16, 2008, the Department of Energy announced it was canceling oil shipments into the SPR beginning in July 2008 when the current purchase contract expires.[3] On May 19, 2008, the White House signaled President Bush's intent to sign the legislation passed by the Congress.[4]

The United States started the petroleum reserve in 1975 after oil supplies were cut off during the 1973-74 oil embargo, to mitigate future temporary supply disruptions. According to the World Factbook[5], the United States imports a net 12 million barrels (1,900,000 m³) of oil a day (MMbd), so the SPR holds about a 58-day supply. However, the maximum total withdrawal capability from the SPR is only 4.4 million barrels (700,000 m³) per day, making it a 160 + day supply.

Is it ever gonna stop going up?

Had to put gas in the van yesterday, at 9:30 I paid $4.43 when I went past
the same gas station at 1:00 it was $4.51 . I was watching the news and saw the CEO for Exxon, he was trying to explain how much it costs to run
that business and what not, but they're still making a huge profit. I want to know how this guy can look at his friends, family, neighbors and know he's
screwing them all He obviously doesn't own a SSR or otherwise he would be a nice guy Sorry just ranting
