So Cal Caravan to Texas 2009 Rally
Who is planning on attending ?
What day planning on arriving ?
How many days enroute ?
I would leave early Saturday morn (this is good for working people) and plan on making my 1324 miles in either 3 days or 2 days, depending on what the rest of the pack wanted to do. 2 days is my preference, but interested in hearing others thoughts on this.
If there are enough of us with the SAME TRAVEL PLANS it would seem logical to me, to meet at the traditional Lloger/Bondo Princess meeting spot and go from there OR meet someplace further east on the I-10.
It would also make sense to correlate our plans with the Arizona contingent as we did for the Springfield Rally.

jeeeeeeeeeeeeze Gary...
talk about planning ahead
I'm thinking about leaving early Saturday and taking possible 3 days, arriving on Monday mid-day. Returning home would be leaving there Friday morning and getting home sometime Sunday.
If I can find a way to go, I think Las Cruces is the first night and the rally is the second night.
Depending on the other half, we may stop in AZ and see friends and may do the same in LC.
All that is a longshot for now.
Gerry and I are planning on arriving Sunday about noon. Spend Friday night in Tucson, AZ - Saturday night in Fort Stockton, TX - 3 hrs. 12 mins. from Fort Stockton to Kerrville.

Sorry, not trying to rush anything, but attempting to find out if someone else has the same plan as mine before I register and make reservations. I probably wouldn't do this run alone.
At 1324 miles (almost all I-10), I could easily do this run in 2 days. Leaving early Saturday and arriving Sunday . . . or leaving early Sunday and arriving Monday.

My thoughts are to leave early Sat and arrive late Sun but I can change that if there is a big group doing otherwise. I have reservations beginning on Sun but can always modify those and Friday vacation is always an option.

I was just looking at the calendar - I think I'll leave Kingsburg sometime on Friday the 19th... As far as a route goes - I'm open for ideas. I'm looking at seeing some countryside - getting off the interstate and onto state highways perhaps...???

we did this trip to Kerville the last week in marts, and is not dooing it in two days again, when you are in El paso it is only half way, you have to remember, you have to eat and peeweeeeeeee on the trip to and every time you stop it prolonge the trip, we started friday morning 6.00 arrived at El paso 2.00 at nigth, was driwing again 8.00 am and arrived 7.00 pm in kerville, kindest Larry and grethe
Still undecided about going. Most likely I would fly in. For those planning on driving - just a suggestion if you plan on staying in El Paso. El Paso use to be the stolen car capital for the US - not sure how they are doing recently but I don't think I would get much sleep staying in EP.
As a ex native you can slander things in Texas without someone putting a bounty on you.
Which brings up a ole Texas joke about women and bounties - never mind - better not go there.

Thanks, Machelle . . . I'm sure I will . . . My total experience in Texas is either driving through the pan handle at 80 MPH or sitting in DFW waiting for a connecting flight. I'm looking forward to actually spending some time there and seeing some of the sights. (GIANT made a big impact on me)

What about your buddy who bought my blue SSR. Wouldn't he come out too?

I'm assuming you're Greg's wife.
Ken (PACBLUKEN) is an extremely independent man (he didn't even hint about purchasing your until he pulled into our hangout with the top down, a big cigar, and a smile on his face). . . . very secretive rascal. A super great guy, but, basically a loner not that interested in "joining" things (I had to setup his Fanatic screen name while yelling at him across our hangout while he was playing Gin Rummy)
I'll have plenty of time to "work" on him, however, and because its Texas he just might do this one. He was born and raised in Mississippi, so he lends that great Southern Attitude complete with all the "old" back woods sayings that frequently leave us rolling on the floor. A very successful business man here in Santa Clarita, he roams to wherever he can smoke cigars, play golf, or gamble. Vegas loves him (I could probably live the rest of my life RENT FREE on all his Vegas and Laughlin COMPS) .
I'll keep on it, though. Maybe we can get his reunited with its original owner.

Yes, I am Greg's wife, Lynn. I was just thinking that would be someone for you to drive to Texas with. I would like to see my blue truck again and meet him. I didn't get to meet him the day Blue moved out. You have time to work on him. Greg and I are hoping to go too. How many miles does he have on Blue now? When it left it only had 350.

He had 3000 miles on when he got to our hangout in So Cal . . . also a speeding ticket. I'm not sure but I think he wandered into Colorado with a stop in Vegas on his way home (as I said, a truly independent soul . . . goes where he wants to go, when he wants to go) .
I'll work on him, using your desire to see again, Lynn. Maybe I can shame him into coming.
