Here in the valley we gripe about the fog all winter - then head your way to beat the heat in June - and get more FOG!

At the barriers, turn right onto Corral Road and bear left to the top. The launch countdown net and port-o-lets are set up near the bleachers.

There's a scientific launch scheduled for the EARLY morning hours on June 15th (01:47) - or very late on Saturday night (however you look at it! ) - and I was planning to head that way.

Since this is a scientific (rather than military) launch - the date and time have been announced for quite some time - and these launches tend to be more predicable.

Details: Vandenberg AFB Launch Schedule
Date/time: JUN 15 / 01:47 -
Launch Vehicle: Delta II -
Launch Pad: SLC-2W -
Details: Delta II 7320 launch vehicle configuration. Payload is the OSTM/Jason-2 scientific satellite. Spacecraft will enter a 1336 km, circular, non-sun-synchronous orbit with an inclination of 66°. The ground track will repeat every 10 days.

WHITE OAKS HOTEL seems to be reasonable on rates.
Keith,
When would you be headin' up ? If its sat. I might be interested in joining you

Sometimes being "inland" is a plus. We see vehicle and vapor trails best on sunset launches. Just gorgeous! This is from about 180 mi down-range. We may look intocoming up for a close-up look, too.

Those things are just bottle rockets compared to a Space Shuttle launch viewing from the turn basin.

Yep! Too bad the West coast Shuttle launches were scrubbed. Scrubbed even after a bunch of construction on the facilities at VAFB.

When you say "we'll" does that mean your regular co-pilot (kimberly) or did you talk the Mrs. into going.
I Think Nancy and I'll plan on joining you sounds like a BLAST (pun intended)

Still looks like a go for launch.

Not sure what time we will end up leaving - may be better to hook up over there??? Dinner Saturday evening at the Hitching Post - 6 or 6:30???

Still haven't booked a room - not sure if I want to stay in Santa Maria or a little farther north...

Well - they just announced that the launch has been delayed until late Thursday night (19th)...

I may try to make a run over to the area sometime Saturday, but family commitments on Saturday morning make my departure time unknown...
