Visiting USA from Downunder
Just to let you know that Mark & I are FINALLY making it over there for a holiday. We will be in Vegas 20 April until 25 April and then on to San Diego from 26th April through to 30th April and home again.
We would love to see more than one SSR at a time (unlike here)or catch up with any members who have a little spare time for a cofee of whatever.
Also need help in deciding where to stay in Vegas. Looked at Trump and Platinum but they are off the strip and not sure how far a walk it would be to the main areas. Also looked at Junior suite at Signature at MGM Grand. Other options are luxury suite at Venetian, Forum Room at Caesars and luxury suite at Palazzo. I know some are older than others and the pics on website were probably taken when shiny and brand new. Any thoughts would be most welcome. Only looking at spending about $1,000 for accommodation there (so Bellagio is out!!)

I answered your other thread...MGM is a little far down, but the monorail connects it to as far north as Ballys...unless they have expanded it.
The weather will be perfect here that late in April. We usually have a dozen or so SSR's show up for our Cars and Coffee meeting every Saturday. I will keep in contact as the time gets nearer and let you know what is going on in Vegas. I don't think there is a lower cost hotel on the strip proper, than the MGM. You don't want to have to walk from off the strip.
Or you could stay downtown on Freemont Street. We've stayed at the Four Queens and it was very nice. The have a shuttle to take you farther down the strip if you like. The laser light show on Freemont is great.

Flooding

We have been so lucky here in Townsville. The worst of it missed us and went further down. There is more rain coming in from the west at the moment so I really feel for the poor people in the badly flooded areas. We did have a rather nasty snake a couple of days ago between our yard and next door. Pretty sure it was a Taipan (pretty deadly) - but not any more!!!
Very scary to think of the crocodiles and snakes being moved around so much in the floodwaters.
They are having an appeal for the flood victims and I am busy sorting out some sheets and towels, etc as they are needed badly. One of the guys that helped with Hurricane Katrina cleanup is over here and said it could take up to two years to set things right after the water has receded. Decent future planning needs to be put in place. All the coal mines are full of water and crop and sheep/cattle losses will be huge. So far human losses have been extremely low but you still get the idiots that think it is fun to "ride" the rivers. The main highway to the North is open but roads to the south are closed and freight & rail as well. Getting food up here by barge from Brisbane to replenish the supermarkets.
I know you guys have had footage on your news over there and get an idea of what it is like.

Thanks for that. Yes, we are very lucky that the floods are down south of us. We are in our "wet Season/cyclone season" but we have not had any rain to speak of since before xmas. We have only one river in town of which we are close to.The lower half is tidal and the upper is fresh that the whole system is fed from the dam once full. They did release water before xmas but the river level was not to bad.vavoom
