We did not select a place for the farewell breakfast intentionally. Thought we would leave that open until we arrived and had a chance to see what might be new or look good. John , Doug, and I will scope it out on Friday, and make an announcement there!

I have finalized the headcount and payment with the Durango and Silverton. If something comes up and you cannot attend, cancellations from July 18th to August 8th will incur a $6 fee per passenger assessed by the railroad. Cancellations after August 8th are non refundable.
I was supposed to be on the list too. I have my room reservation and plan to show up with the rest of the SOCAL gang.

Big week for me!

I am out the door on my way to the Sierra Nevadas. I am putting the pedal down to get to the Utah, CA border and cruising from there to North Fork outside of Fresno.
It is I80 all the way so if you here or happen to see a Blur go by, tis me...
I am taking it day by day and do not have any plans other than to get out west.

Let you know how I go and look forward to the Durango Run!

Rally DVD

Once again, you will see me with a video camera attached to my shoulder throughout most of the weekend in Durango. I’ll be capturing footage for the 2008 Colorado Rally DVD. Plans for the production include footage of all the fun events over the weekend, interviews of fellow SSR owners, and of course an SSR or two. Pricing will be $29.95 per disc, and orders will be fulfilled as soon as production is complete, usually a few weeks after the event.
Sales information will be posted at ColoradoSSR.com when the discs are available. You can pre-order if you like, just send an email to john at colorado dot com or PM me and I’ll take your reservation.

I am really excited! I have wanted to learn to 2 step for a long time. If you have ever watched Lloyd (Lloger) & Geri (bondo Princess) 2 step you know they know how it is done. Well, at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening of the Durango run, assuming we can find a room at the hotel, Geri is going to give us some 2 step lessons and line dance lessons. These just might come in very handy the next night at the Wild Horse. Geri is going to start a sign-up thread to gauge interest, so sign up and Geri, you can put Blue Thunder and Blue Lightning at the top of the list!

Change of Venue - Friday Dinner

We have had a change of venue for Friday's dinner - we will now be going to Sweeney's Grubsteak instead of the Ore House due to a schedule conflict. We have reservations for 14 at a time spaced in 15 minute increments. We have this information all worked out for you, including maps to the venue and a pre-designated road captain for each group. This will be given to you at the checkin on Thursday afternoon/evening.

Thanks to Doug and Jeff for taking the bull by the horns on this and solving the issue.

Was talking to my friend who lives just outside of Durango... She had a couple of tips for the train ride...
As for the Train ride. There are a couple things you might want to tell people for a more "comfortable" ride. In the Animas Valley where the train travels, it rains almost every day. It has been dry the last couple of days, but often it thunderstorms up there. If they take the Gondola Car (recommended), they may get a little wet. I always take a cheap rain poncho and fold it up in my backpack just in case. Also, everyone needs to wear sunglasses or eye protection. They train puts out tons of soot. Expect your face and hair to feel pretty greasy when you return and if your eyes are not sorta protected, you may get a little soot in them. Silverton is not very big, but you will want to walk around some in the stores, etc. The train ride is BEAUTIFUL. It is worth all the soot and rain. There is also a snack car that serves breakfast sandwiches, light lunches and junk food. Not bad but a long wait to get food sometimes.

As for the soot, it won't be bad as we get a bus ride on the return trip.
