*UPDATED* 5 p.m. Dinner at Sweeney's Grubsteak - The Ore House had a conflict with our reservation, so we have moved to a different restaurant. We have arranged for groups of 7 SSRs to leave for Sweeney's in 15 minute increments - you will be given your reservation in your welcome packet. Sweeney's is a steakhouse located a short distance north of Durango on County Road 203 - which is parallel with Highway 550. Maps will be provided.

9 p.m. - Midnight - party and dancing at the Wild Horse
w/ Blue Thunder and his nephew, Jeff Johnson and the High Roller Band performing live! There is a cover charge of $3-$5 to get in.

SATURDAY AUGUST 23rd

We will gather at the Durango train station no later than 7:45 am for boarding - train leaves at 8:15 am. Travel time to Silverton, CO will be roughly 2 hours, and we should arrive in Silverton around 11:30. We will have 2 hours to explore Silverton, then we will board busses for the ride back to Durango. The ride back will be faster (and less sooty) and should allow plenty of time to get refreshed and ready for dinner at the Bar-D.
Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

BAR D Chuckwagon Supper Show

All tickets include supper, show, parking, tax, and tip.
Supper is served at 7:30 Sharp. The show is about an hour and starts at 8:15-8:30.

9 p.m. - Midnight - John Mesis will be playing at the Diamond Belle Saloon, lower level of the historic Strater Hotel. This is next door to the train station and across the street from the Doubletree. John was the keyboard player for the Drifters and the Shirelles in the late fifties and sixties and is quite entertaining. He will be playing after our return from the Bar D Chuckwagon.

Photo Opportunity!

Four Corners is an hour and a half drive west from Durango, CO. The California and Arizona contingents are planning a get together at Four Corners at roughly noon on Thursday, August 21st, for a photo op by Bigwave. Picture it: four states, one photo and a bunch of SSR's - it should be a blast! The group will probably kick around Four Corners for a couple hours, then make the hour and a half drive into Durango for the meet and greet later that afternoon.

Those coming from the south and west can meet in Flagstaff, AZ Wednesday night, August 20th. Convoy should start around 9am Thursday morning for Four Corners. If you want to get in on the convoy, contact Blue Thunder for more details.

One other detail - there is a $3 charge for admission to the monument. I'm not sure if they accept credit, so bring a few dollars with you.

Last edited by jwthomp; 07-02-2008 at 04:03 PM. Reason: corrected dates - photo op is on Thursday, 8/21.

My wife and I would be interested. We did an exotic car cruise from Durango to Telluride via Silverton and Ouray last fall. It was a blast. Would love to come back to the area.

I am still in Laughlin but need to be on that list until my boss says otherwise. Unfortunately that will not be until mid March. Hope we can make that happen. I will be doing some arm twisting and seniority awarness training to make it acceptable to the boss.

The response has been fantastic! I think I've gotten everyone accounted for so far - please check the list in post #2 and let me know if I missed anyone.

I'll continue to add names as they roll in. I'll also check with the Doubletree tomorrow (Tuesday, 1/29) to see if they have our group rate information yet.

Hey Gang,

Spoke with Aaron Gumm, our group sales coordinator, and the Doubletree is giving us the following group rate:

25 rooms – single king – city view – $174 per night

25 rooms – double queen – river view - $194 per night

The group code is - "SSRFanatic"

If anyone encounters a problem when reserving at the Doubletree, ask for Aaron Gumm in group sales.
