Mesa Verde Update!!!!!

We now have tour choices for the Mesa Verde Run on Fridy, August 22, 2008!!!!!

1. Driving the park - no tour guide, at your own pace. Cost per person: N/C

2. Walking Tour - Guided Tours approximately 4 hours in length. Your guided Tour choices are:

Cliff Palace, Balcony House, or Spruce Tree.

Note: The guided walking tours are strenuous, and are not recommended for the physically challenged.

Cost per person: $ 3.00

3. Bus / Guided Tour - Leaves promptly at 8:00 AM - you should be at the Park Entrance not later than 7:00 AM.

Cost per person: $ 49.00 - You can visit the ARAMARK website for rates, schedules and other services at Activity Detail: Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Please note that the above per person costs are IN ADDITION to the $ 15.00 Entrance Permit Fee per car to obtain access to the park. Due to the various options available, we will leave it to each party to decide which tour they wish to attend.

Anybody that wishes to caravan to the Park will need to be in the hotel parking lot ready to go at 6:30 AM on Friday, August 22nd.

My vote is for # 1. Driving the park.
For those who which to do the same as me, why not caravan sometime between 7 - 7:30 AM.

Let me put it this way - I don't know. But I'm not driving one of the R's on dirt roads.....

I'm going to try to do a weekend run to check it out in July.

Years ago, the Park Service built a new road to the Balcony House overlook an tour starting point. The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe wanted to build a hotel on their land that adjoins the Park boundary at the south end of the mesa top and the road crossed their land. The Park Service managed to stop the hotel from being built, and in retaliation the Utes built a fence on their boundary - right across the road. The Park Service had to bull-doze a "temporaray road" to get traffic out of the loop, and it was a dirt road for some time. Should be all paved by now, this was years ago.

A thought etc

Glenda and I bought walkie talkies for Sedona which stayed in the kryovac for the trip. Would someone be able to be the tour guide using a walkie talkie system. If that is possible lets make sure everyone has a walkie talkie. Of course this is based on us using our trucks in the park.

tub is in for two people and one obviously truck for the drive thru portion... NOT willing to gamble with the new knee on the "trails and ladders". I haven't been to Mesa Verde since I was 10 ( a couple of months ago...) and Rebecca never has. This should be GREAT !! Thanks for arranging it for all of us.
