car shows in Colorado

follow this link and click on August. There is a car show happening during the SSR run just up the road in Gunnison. Will take about 3 1/2 hours to get there from Durango. I know of an off-road (driveable by car) short cut through owl creek pass that will absolutely NOT save you any drive time, but it sure is pretty...

Colorado Car Shows, Swap Meets, Concours d'Elegance, Car Corrals

Just FYI, for those that may not be riding the train that day...

Should we get all-terrain tires first?

It actually is not a bad road. I drove a rental car through it once with no problems other than dust all over the car.

4x4 is not required which says alot.
Most off-road pass roads in CO require 4 wheel drive at one point or another and I have driven some DOOZIES, highest to date was mosquito pass between leadville and fair play (south park county) at over 13000 feet That one was in a rental grand cherokee and that pass concerned me a bit...steep and loose.

Ever try Black Bear Pass? Some of the roads around Telluride, Old Ophir will raise your hair on end and greatly increase the pucker factor on your upholstery!

Ophir was my first ever CO pass road to attempt. Tackled it first from the east side and the snow got too deep near the summit. then tried it from the west side 2 years later on another visit, but in an inadequate vehicle, it stopped me about halway up.

Black Bear I tried once but it was treacherous and being in a rental I didn't want to venture further. I also drove quite a few in Ouray but snow depth always stopped me.

Oh My God Road (actual name) between Idaho Springs and Central City used to be a lot of fun, but I heard they paved it.. so it might not be as much fun anymore.

When it was just dirt,.. you had your washbaords, your inverted corners, shoulder drop offs that easily reached 300 and 400 feet, skid marks that went off into air, area's where only one vehicle at a time could get though, and NO rails.

Ouray and Silverton Roads

I have driven all of the off-road trails around Ouray and Silverton and none are suitable for a two wheel drive vehicle, with an exception a road out of Silverton to Animus Forks. I have driven Owl Creek Pass and a two wheel high clearance is OK, but an SSR??? I wouldn't drive mine over it.
The scenery is hard to to beat in that area.

I'm with you, wouldn't drive my SSR on any pass road.
Did drive Owl Creek once in a rented Pontiac Bonneville. No problem, Stopped at the summit for lunch, sat on the rock and watched the Aspen leaves flutter, then drove down the other side and went on into Crested Butte.
