On the way to Colorado we and ssreal stopped by the famous Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo. What a site to see.
We are going to the Big Texan Steak Ranch tonight. Driving to Denver tomorrow.

Estes Pics
These were taken last weekend during Lori and my dress rehearsal run - they should whet your appetite for more.
Apparently we were too fast for the Countach...
Gateway into Big Thompson Canyon (Highway 34)
Highway 34
Highway 34
Big Thompson River and Highway 34
Colorado Highway 7, just above Estes Park
Ed's Cantina - just west of the Visitor's center. Notice the tight parking - you may want to park at the Visitor's center and take the brief walk on Sunday if the lot is full.
Big Thompson looks so different then when I was there during the big flood. I believe August '76. Pillars of Hercules are put in their place with that shinning SSR next to them!

We're in the mountains, Hunny!
Ok, Lori and I took the opportunity to grab a beverage in the bar this evening...
And then we took a stroll outside.
When we got back to our room (on the 4th floor) however, we had a surprise visitor. No - not a ghost. I had left a window open to take advantage of the cool, fresh mountain air, and a local raccoon took advantage of the open window to partake in my wife's stash of Milano cookies. He wasn't too happy to leave the cookies either - he at least retreated to the window (while my wife made a hasty retreat to the safety of the other side of the room door.) I shooed him away and lowered the window, then let my wife know it was safe to reenter the room (after I checked under the bed for more visitors.) So much for the cookies - but no harm done otherwise. I reminded Lori at least it wasn't a bear.
The raccoon peered longingly into the room through the now-closed window, but he scampered away before I could take his picture. The windows are double-sash, and I now know why the Hotel staff lowered the top sash rather than raised the bottom sash. All the same, I think the windows will be left closed when the room is unattended or when we're sleeping.
I wish I could be up there with you guys. Unfortunately I am stuck here in the springs with things that I cannot get out of.
Hopefully there will be another get together around the rockies soon that I will be able to attend.
Keep up with the beautiful photos.

Love the night pic of the Stanley. I would love to stay there once.
Well you may not have had a ghost in your room but you do have a story to tell!!!!
Beautiful pictures!!
I love it out there in the Rockies!
Man, I wish I had figured a way to be there with you.
Could have celebrated my birthday (16th) while there. Maybe next year.......
Keep the pictures coming...it's great to see them!
It's good to know that the Estes Park area is still full of pesty critters.
I had a run-in with those Estes Park squirrels or ground squirrels or chipmunks, whatever they are (they are the ones that look like giant chipmunks to me.) They want food, and they want it immediately upon issuing their demand for it! At least they are not as big as bears!!
And one year, after hand feeding some of those cute little furry squirrels, I learned upon my return to GA that there was a rabies epidemic amongst those critters!
