Taking pre-orders for the 2008 Durango Rally DVD
The 2008 Durango Rally DVD is close to being done - you can look at the preview at Colorado SSR! I’m taking pre-orders to guesstimate how many DVDs I need to order. It will take a week to ten days for my duplication order to be filled, and I anticipate shipping DVDs the first week of October.
The DVD is $29.95 plus $7 shipping and handling. Click here to place your preorder.
I’m currently waiting for response from the copyright holders for a sync license for some of the music played at the Wild Horse saloon - if I can’t obtain licensing for these songs in the coming week, I’ll reedit the scene from the Wild Horse minus the music, re-score the scene and release the DVD. I hate to have to do that, so I’m hoping a little more time is all that’s needed for the copyright holders to respond.

Now go order one and quit stirring the pot

Sorry for any difficulties with the preview - not sure what the deal is, but my site is on a shared server and sometimes it can get sluggish under peak loads. If you do have difficulties just post here and I'll make a note - if I don't already have your contact info, I'll get in touch with you.

Update
Things are coming together for the Durango DVD. The production itself is done, I'm waiting for the legal stuff to wind through so I can release the production for sale. To that end, I've received 1/3 of the sync licenses I'm waiting for, and a promise from the other 2/3 (Sony) that a license agreement is coming in the next 7 to 10 days. I'm excited these licenses are coming together, as the portion of the production they pertain to is a lot of fun!
Thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered the DVD - I'll be sending an invoice to you right after I receive final license clearance and release the order to my DVD duplicator.

DVD Update (licensing hell)
OK, I'm going to cut and paste the header of the email I got - draw your own conclusions:

John-
Your request for the use of this song in your documentary, as outlined in your request fax, has been approved. ...
Yes - I didn't get clearance until December 12th, and it's been an interesting round of negotiations to get this far. I have all my legal paperwork in line now, and the DVD is scheduled for duplication the week of December 29th. Once complete, it will take about 5 days for it to arrive at my door, at which time I can ship to you. I apologize for the lengthy wait, but it's almost over.
Usually, in the creation of film, TV and documentary products, music clearance is started in preproduction and negotiations are underway during production, as they can sometimes take a while to complete - and of course you are not guaranteed they will come through either. This is why the TV series WKRP in Cincinnati and the movie Heavy Metal has had a difficult road to release on home video - the clearances secured during their filming did not include home distribution, and the music contained in each had to be renegotiated.
I was going to eliminate this excerpt from my video in November and press forward, however Sony had assured me I would receive an agreement, so I waited for them to finish their work. I'm glad to secure these permissions, as the song is a highlight of the weekend.
Look for invoices for preorders to go out the week after Christmas - I will start filling orders as payments are received. Again - thanks for your patience - I've learned a few things myself in this process, and I think future projects will be done a little differently to try to eliminate music clearance as a showstopper.
