ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A husband and wife have been injured after a pickup truck slammed into the central Florida restaurant where they were eating lunch.
The couple was dining at the Golden Corral restaurant Wednesday afternoon when the driver of a Chevrolet SSR crashed into the building while trying to park.
Police say the vehicle drove through a hedge and into the dining area. An elderly man and woman were hospitalized. Altamonte police could not immediately provide information on their condition Thursday.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Car crashes into Golden Corral, injures 2 diners
A pickup truck slammed so hard into a Golden Corral restaurant in Altamonte Springs this afternoon that it knocked down a wall, injuring a husband and wife having lunch inside.
It took 20 minutes for rescue workers to free the driver of the Chevrolet SSR, which crashed into the restaurant along State Road 434 south of State Road 436 about 1:35 p.m., police spokesman Officer Robert Pelton said.
The driver, a woman in her 50s, was parking in a space at the restaurant's side and failed to stop at the curb. The pickup careened through a hedge, against a wall and into the dining area, Pelton said.
"Nobody knows why, yet," Pelton said.
The driver was taken to ORMC and was in stable condition. Police did not release her name.
The falling wall pushed diner Jean Taylor, 78, of Sanford, against a table and onto the floor, said the couple's son, Gary Taylor, a reporter with the Orlando Sentinel. Husband Ben Taylor, 82, was hit by debris.
Jean Taylor was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure, her son said. Ben Taylor was taken to Florida Hospital Altamonte.
The truck came to rest with its front inside the restaurant. The building was so badly damaged that it had structural problems and was evacuated.

Three people were injured late Wednesday afternoon when a car crashed into a Golden Corral restaurant along West Town Parkway near SR-434. Two of the people hurt were inside the restaurant.
Police are still investigating how the crash happened and how fast the driver was going.
Eyewitness News obtained the 911 call from the incident.
“911, police, fire, or medical? What's your emergency?" a 911 operator asked.
"Ma'am, we have a car that just went through the Golden Corral," replied the caller.
"People started calling 911 and praying," eyewitness Ronald West said.
West and others were enjoying a late lunch at Golden Corral when a high-performance Chevy SSR plowed through a wall.
"We just ran over and started pulling all the tables and chairs off the people who were hit directly as it came through the wall," West described.
While the debris flew across the room and hit several restaurant guests, the truck itself hit a couple in their 70s sitting next to the wall.
"It's important, the car went all the way through," the caller said to the operator.
"What type of car is it?" asked the operator.
"It looks like a black truck, a brand new one," the caller replied.
As firefighters and police arrived, everyone in the restaurant had to stay back while engineers checked to make sure the roof didn't collapse.
While crews were on scene for about two hours, those who were inside took a moment to catch their breath.
"There’s people just sitting down to eat and next thing you know they're hit with a car," West said.
The building was deemed safe and the car was safely removed around 3:00pm. The driver of the car and the couple were taken to the hospital and they were in stable condition.
The owner of Golden Corral was at the scene and says they'll have to do a lot of clean up, but they might be able to reopen for business on Thursday.

Those wheels should make identifying this "R" easier. Guess we'll wait for Chuck to post here.

I've been running through the VIN Registry locating from FLA but haven't spotted this one yet. By saying that there are lots of FLA listed but I have been trying to spot those wheels in pictures as they look very familiar.
Anyone know what that is on the running board?

They did cut the roof off. You can see the remnants all right. With the little it seems to take to write these off sadly it would seem likely this one might be destined for the Deceased SSR thread particularly with roof replacemnt involved also. Someone try to catch up with a VIN# if possible.

It may be a Snow Bird down for the Holidays. I don't know the "R". Glad it wasn't Chuck or Mike.
Post when someone finds out. I am sure they are OK.

Sorry to see any SSR damaged. Hope the people involved are all OK .
As for repairing, that truck is a total loss. The insurance company is not going to repair a five year old $25k (current value) vehicle that no parts (other than used) are available for. The damage looks extreme, more than the $11.5k or so it would take to total it.
Unless the ownwers had collectors insurance with stated value, I say that SSR is totaled.
I've been in auto body repair business for about 15 years, and just know how insurance companies work the numbers.
Only collector insurance underwriters know the "sentamental value" of such a great vehicle.
As always, this is just my opinion, maybe I'll be wrong.

I agree. It really looks like it must be totalled. I don't believe even an SSR can go through brick walls, then have its roof hacked off and live to see the road another day.
