My SSR: 2004 Slingshot Yellow WITH CUSTOM TUNE BY JERERMY
Another SSR Bashing in Yahoo News
Once again so called car experts are bashing the SSR in Yahoo news on a list they call The Ten Car Flops. I was so aggravated I had to a write statement on Yahoo and put a Thread here. It justs amazes me how a writer can knock a car without owning one or even driving one.
I put in. "Anyone that doesn't own one would call it a "Dud". Those who own them drive with Permigrin. What more can a guy want, Corvette, convertible, truck that goes like hell!!"

Dicktator
My sentiments exactly. Stupid writer probably drives a BMW and hates muscle cars

Hey, let them all comment how they want. We've seen this a couple of dozen times, same comments, same article, maybe in a slightly different order. What we all know is people comment, very positively, when they see the SSR and I will verify, most have R-envy, too!
Most of these writers are given their assignments from their editors, they're paid to write these stories. It's been a long long time since the media did their homework, and were accountable for accuracy in reporting.
We know how fun they are, but GM washed their hands of the SSR long ago as well.

I owned a 67 Corvette before my house burned taking everything and I came across my 2005 SSR and I will never go back. The preformance is similar but easier to get in top up and down is amazing and I love the design and looks and by peoples comments they do too.
My SSR: '03 #01155 Painted stripes, Flomaster, K&N air system, Port/polished Throttle Body, Custom Tuned

Richard, welcome to the SSR Forum family!
Many of us went from Corvette to SSR for the same reasons you did. I traded my 1994 Vette for my 2003 SSR back in 2006. I have been very pleased ever since. I still love and respect the Corvettes too!
The article is titled "Design" Duds. You can probably blame some of the demise of the SSR on its cost, perhaps its lower HP in the first two years, and the fact that it won't rate high in practicality for most American's use but you can hardly blame the "design" for anything other than it's appeal to most.........whether you're an owner or just an admirer.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Eye be hold'n onto mine.
Parked my slingshot yellow SSR with the top down in front of a beauty salon last weekend. When my buddy and I walked by there were 4 women at the front window with their thumbs up. I bet anyone of them would have taken a ride in my "Dud". My buddy wants one now...
I've had my 2004 redline for 2 weeks now and I've never had so many "thumbs up" from other motorists as I have riding with the top down and I give them the "thumbs up" as I leave the light and see them in my rear view mirror. And the sad part is they can't see how big my smile is in my rearview mirror.
When you have folks making "U" turns to follow you into the grocery store parking lot, it ain't cause they want to point and laugh. 99% never saw one before and can't believe in my case that it is a 2003. They all stare with lust in their eyes, ask questions and drool as they walk around it, just like we all did when we saw our first one.
My response to their “I just love your truck” is always the same, “thanks I love it too I waited a long time to get one”
I own a Ford Excursion and a SSR. The Excursion is diesel powered, gets great milage, will tow a mountain and has more room and load hauling ability than a half ton. I wouldn't trade it for anything. The SSR I wouldn't trade for anything either for all the same reasons we all have. Even with all the "quirks". It has personality!!!! And those "automotive writers" the ones who are uninformed idiots, if you lower yourself to argue with them at their level you can't win. They beat you up with experience. Like someone said "there is no cure for stupid, too bad that stupid doesn't hurt" So, two vehicles on the "dud" list, kind of like a badge of honor.
I liked the article it just shows how stupid they are and we don't need idiots driving an SSR . Who cares what they think they don't have any idea how much fun these are to own and drive . Maybe they don't have enough money to own one . Just remember you can't fix stupid .
My SSR: 05 SSR 6 speed Aqua Blur 70 Olds 442 conv 92 vette conv. 6Speed
Those writers obviously never drove an SSR. THe top does NOT fold into the bed, and who cares if it s a little heavy,,,it could have 400hp and a 6 speed manual trans. O and they are COOL!!!
Yepper I put a post on there when I saw it too. I wrote under Tin Lizzy. Aggravated me to tears to read the article. I've never met a single SSR owner that was sorry they purchased it!!!!
When we had dinner with some of the GM people at the Woodward Banquet last Friday night, this article came up in one of their speeches. I won't tell you his name, but I will tell you that he was in a very high position in the Engineering department. Here's the quote from his speech:
"I've seen a little negative press recently about the SSR" he said, as he identified the source of the article. "My only response is" (appropriate dramatic pause) "This is just BULL$HIT !!!" At that point, the entire room roared with applause and cheers.
The real truth comes from the guys who designed, engineered and built these trucks.
I agree ...... Ed, my friend, you were right on target.
Why not invite the writer of the article to the Flagstaff rally to show what us SSR owners really think about those cool hot rod trucks.
I'd wager that the writer of the atricle is some analyst that drives a Prius..... or some other battery powered piece of crap. Definitely not willing to go farther than his batteries will take him.
My SSR: '03 RED vin1337, '06(lastoneinblack) vin 24107..Sadly sold '04UV,'05SILVER,'06PACBLU FPR
It's tough to take a writer seriously when he does not even know how to add.
Check out the Excursion article, an 8500 pound, (three and a half ton ) truck.
I think a third grader knows that three and a half ton adds up the 7000 pounds.
Over all though, the SSR article isn't as harsh as others I've seen.
I also was applauding Ed's comment on the article at the banquet. Very funny.
My SSR: not the prettiest, nor the fastest but she's my bitchin SSR!
Let's see they are bad rapping a car that has been out of production for all of five to six years now?!
Do they have an opinion on the 1940 Hupmobile?!
Or the Stanley Steamer?
My neighbor emailed this article when it was on MSN!
I ignored it. Which is what we should do! I'm sorry it reared it's ugly head here'
Can we make this go away?!
