Cool picture. Every time us Fanatics get together in the U.S. we seem to create an SSR scream machine!

I better go check my Blue Jackets Manual. Tuff getting old. I thought that Battleships had 24's & 16's whereas Destroyer's had the 16's.

USS Iowa after a 1980 retrofit. Originally (1939-40's) had 12 16" guns. Pix has 9 firing. Notice the sideslip when the guns were fired. Obviously this is a firepower demo.

P/P

Peace

P.S. I can't imagine anyone being able to stand during the gunfire.
I've flown on AC-130 Gunships when the 105 mm gun was fired...the rear of the aircraft skewed about 18" each time. You better hold on.

The destroyer I served on (DD651) (65-59) Had 5" Guns 2 forward 2 aft. 16's were only on battleships.
