ASHWAUBENON — Jill Thiede won the use of a
red 2005 Chevrolet SSR for the next week, just for being herself at Paper Converting Machine Company.
As part of an internal leadership initiative created by parent company Barry-Wehmiller,
each Thursday until July 6 one employee will be presented the keys to the
Chevy SSR and a coupon for $100 worth of gasoline and will be invited to
take the rest of the day off.
"This company, like so many companies, has had challenging times in the past five years, but we think that the mood has really changed in the past few months," said Craig Sabota, chairman of the Guiding Principles of Leadership Committee. "Our purpose is to recognize our employees who demonstrate teamwork, empowerment and leadership."
The winners are nominated by their peers and can be among any of the 1,000 Paper Converting employees at four facilities in the Green Bay area, Sabota said. Gene Mikulsky accepted his award during a cookout at the Ashland Avenue plant.
In Thiede's case the committee found that she is an employee who brings a positive attitude to work, brings out the best in others around her and develops a true sense of teamwork when working with customers.
The award was made Thursday at a picnic luncheon Paper Converting throws for its employees. About 500 to 600 employees enjoyed the barbecue.
"The car is really fun, but what's really special is that it's recognition from the team that I get to work with, a team that has been extremely supportive," said Thiede, a strategic account manager.
Paper Converting makes equipment for tissue converting, nonwovens converting, engraving and embossing, flexo printing and laminating and in-line printing systems.
The 85-year-old company is one of the world's leading paper converting-equipment manufacturers.
Barry-Wehmiller is a St. Louis-based holding company for a group of businesses involved in packaging-automation equipment, corrugating and sheeting equipment, and information technology and engineering consulting.
