I tried to look for close cities too - no luck... Wow getting hit by a Mack truck!
I had a close encounter over at the coast last weekend.
If you head West from Lompoc on Ocean Ave, you can access the beach at 'Surf' - where there is an Amtrack automated station and parking lot. This beach is surrounded by Vandenberg Air Force property, so there is only a couple hundred yards open to the public.
Anyhow, as we were heading out of the parking lot, we started to go up an incline, when a car came flying around the corner at the top - heading down toward us. Well, their a$$ end came loose, the girl driver (20 YO or so) over corrected, and brought the rear around the other way, overcorrected again after that.
The whole time I'm at the bottom of the hill watching this outta control car heading my way. I drop the SSR into reverse to try to get the he!! out of the way - about this time the girl must have let off of the brakes, cause the car shoots OFF the road about 25 yards in front of me and goes airborne - then comes to a stop just before crashing thru the fence to the parking lot - about where I was just parked!
The two girls get out of their now bumperless (both got ripped off when they went over the mogols while offroading) import - shook up but OK. We didn't stick around other than to make sure they weren't hurt, but I think they may have been hitting the Cerveza...
I can only imagine what a Mack truck bearing down on you must look like!
